Dear Fly Fisher,

The Nautilus think tank continues to churn out some amazing ideas and designs.

Innovation reigns supreme at our Miami factory, and not a day goes by without

someone laying an idea down on paper. Most ideas never make it further than the

trash bin, but every idea adds to the encyclopedia of reel making knowledge

that our team has gathered. From new drag systems and spool designs

to optimizing machining time to increase output. We are not afraid to

innovate: Scrap the old to make room for the new.

In the years to come we will continue to innovate with new

reels, new components and new drag systems. We are

always studying market trends: New fly lines, running lines,

rods, casting styles, fishing methods, etc. Our sport is

constantly evolving and to imitate what others succeed

with may sound like a safe bet, but it is awfully boring

and not very rewarding. At Nautilus Reels we are always

working to make tomorrow’s best fly fishing reel.

In this year’s catalog you will find today’s best trout

reel: The FWX reel that was introduced a year ago. Then

read up on the NV-G series: The Über-arbor fly reels that

reel in a foot per turn. New for 2011 are two fly reels

designed just for Spey and two handed fly fishers, and a

NAUTILUS NV SPEY SERIES

Since we first began making the Nautilus reels we have

always kept an eye on the Spey and two-hander segment

of this sport. For 8 years now we have published our Spey

specs chart to help you figure out what reel to match to

your favorite Spey rod and line. Over time we have

gathered a huge following in this niche fly fishing

market and we are constantly listening

to what is coming, what is going and

adapting our reels to upcoming trends.

The current trend in Spey casting is

the thinner running lines that help

casters shoot the lines farther with

less effort. While a great thing for

distance, this has created new balance

requirements in fly reel design.

The Nautilus NV Spey reels have been

designed to maximize the effectiveness

of these thin running lines, and we

incorporated the hugely popular Giga arbor

design for lightening fast line pick up and minimal

line memory.

The Nautilus FWX series are the lightest, most

FWX reels are almost a half ounce lighter than their FW

predecessors due to a new spool design and internal changes.

We can proudly say that we make the lightest machined

aluminum disc drag fly reel on the market.

Like the NVG reels, the FWX sport our Giga arbor

spool design that promotes faster line pick up and

backing drying. In addition to the advanced spool

designs used in these reels, we have added a

new stainless steel 1-way clutch that is housed

The retrieve direction can be easily switched

from left hand to right hand and the spools are

easily changed with a push on and click off release.

the back of each FWX spool to write the line type and weight

that you are using. Write with a permanent marker and wipe
