Build a hovercraftout of a cd
1.If you are using the cap from a
water bottle, cover the center
hole of the CD with a piece of
tape and poke about 6 holes in
the tape with a push-pin or small
nail. This will slow down the flow
of air and allow your hovercraft
to hover longer.
2.Use the hot glue gun to glue the
cap to the center of the CD or
DVD disc. Create a good seal to
keep air from escaping.
3.Blow up the balloon all the way
and pinch the neck of it. (Don't
tie it.)
4.Make sure the pop-top is closed
and fit the neck of the balloon
over the pop-up portion of the
cap. (This is usually easier with
2 people)
5.That's it! When your ready to
commence hovering, simply put
the craft on a smooth surface
and pop the top open
The project above is a
DEMONSTRATION. To make it a
true experiment, you can try to
answer these questions:
1. Does the size of the balloon
affect the CDs ability to hover?
2. Does a helium balloon work better than an air filled balloon?
3. Do larger discs make better hovercrafts
(plastic picnic plates, old record albums) ?
The air flow created by the
balloon causes a cushion of
moving air between the disc
and the surface. This lifts the
CD and reduces the friction
which allows the disc to hover
freely. Large scale hovercraft
are capable of traveling over
land, snow and water.

JokesLittle Preeti came running into the house after school one day,
shouting, “Daddy! Daddy! I got a 100 in school today!”
“That's great, sweetheart,” said her daddy. “Come in to the
living room and tell me about it.”

Teacher : PAPPU, give me a sentence starting with “I”.
Pappu : I is …....
Teacher : No, PAPPU. Always say, “I am.”
Pappu : All right… “I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.”
Abu Abdullah Muhammad Ibn Jabir Ibn
Sinan al-Battani al-Harrani was born
around 858 C.E. in Battan, a State of Harran.
Battani was first educated by his father
Jabir Ibn San'an al-Battani, who was also
a well-known scientist. He then moved to
Raqqa, situated on the bank of the Euphrates, where he received
advanced education and later on flourished as a scholar. At the
beginning of the 9th century, he migrated to Samarra, where he
worked till the end of his life in 929 C.E.
• Discovered the increase of the suns apogee (He found that the longitude of the sun's
apogee had increased by 16° , 47' since Ptolemy) responsible for the discovery
motion of the solar apsides
• Best known is ' On the Science of Stars ' (Kitab al-Zij)
• Achievements in Kitab Al-Zij: He catalogued 489 stars, refined the existing values for
the solar year's length (as 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 24 seconds), calculated
54.5" per year for the precession of the equinoxes, and obtained the value of 23.35'
for the inclination of the ecliptic,.
• Rather than using geometrical methods, as Ptolemy had done, al-Battani used trigo
nometrical methods, constituting an important advance. For example, he provided
important trigonometric formulas for right-angled triangles such as:
b sin(A)=a sin(90-A)
