Wondering if there’s a natural hair treatment for hair loss – a cheaper non-drug remedy that is just as effective as other pharmaceutical treatments? Why, of course there is. In fact, there ARE. Below are a few natural hair loss treatments:

Saw Palmetto Berries. For the past several years, saw palmetto has been the subject of numerous studies about prostate health. Saw palmetto is believed to block dihydrotestosterone (DHT) build-up through a liposerolic extract which is anti-androgen. When taken as a drug, it kills the androgen receptors found in the hair follicles. Specifically, it blocks type 1 and type 2 forms of 5α reductase. People that are deficient of L-Lysine, an

essential amino acid, would most likely benefit from saw palmetto. Saw palmetto is a natural hair treatment for hair loss which is an active ingredient in some oral and topical drugs for hair loss.

Green Tea. Green tea has been proven to provide several health gains. Green tea is also a natural hair loss treatment that can be administered topically or orally. Green tea contains catechin, an anti-androgenic chemical. Catechins are rich in zinc which reduces 5 alpha reductase discharge. Drinking several cups of green tea everyday is said to reverse hair loss though not grow new hair. But there’s the rub: the studies which indicated such effects only subjectedanimals into experimentation – not humans. Therefore, to say that green tea can

actually treat pattern baldness can be misleading though not totally groundless.

Pygeum Africanum. Pygeum has similar effects to saw palmetto. It also promotes prostate health which is why it is assumed to block DHT build-up. Pygeum is an African evergreen tree that decreases the release of 5 alpha redutase.

Stinging Nettle. Another natural hair treatment for hair loss is stinging nettle. Stinging nettles have always been used for treating various illnesses – including prostate pain. Therefore, similar to saw palmetto, it is assumed to decrease DHT levels. Usually stinging nettles come as topical solutions which can also make hair soft and shiny.

Pumpkin Seed Oil. Pumpkin seed oil contains zinc; hence, it is assumed to block DHT production in the liver.

Ginkgo. Ginkgo promotes hair restoration by increasing the blood supply to the brain and skin. More blood supply to the scalp means more nutrients to the hair follicles. Ginkgo is also a very popular ingredient in a lot of commercial hair loss treatments.

When medications are so taxing, natural treatments are a practical option. The common problem with a natural hair treatment for hair loss however is that its effects on hair loss are poorly documented. Still, they can be worth the try especially when most of them are the active ingredients on some treatment products for hair loss.
