REFLECTIONS – Third Sunday of Easter - In a time when our country is so passionately divided that people are prone to dismissing the views of others as ignorant or even evil, the disciples’ journey to Emmaus may have a message for us today. When the “stranger” joins them, they are appalled that he does not know what has been going on, but they do not turn away from him. They explain their views of recent events and, perhaps more importantly, they listen to what the stranger has to say. Because of their openness, they see things in a new light. How open are you to listening to the views of others and considering their opinions? Can you step back from rhetoric that makes objective discussion impossible? Are you willing to take a look at the facts, or do you just rely on your feelings?

“Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge.” - Psalm 16:1 Reprinted with permission from S.T. Productions.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

MONTH Every April the Pinwheel is used as the national symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month. Today, when people see a pinwheel, they think of happy children playing and

having fun. Over time, when people see the pin-wheel, we want them to also see a symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention. Ultimately we want to convey, through the pinwheel message, that every child deserves the chance to be raised in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment.

Retrouvaille has a weekend coming up soon, May 26th, 27th, and 28th in Lafayette, Louisiana. Retrouvaille is a ministry for couples in troubled marriages. Retrouvaille is French for rediscovery or reawakening. You may be more familiar with marriage encounter, which is intended to enrich good, stable marriages. Retrouvaille is more like a lifeline for troubled or broken marriages and hurt-ing couples. It is for married couples who are anxious about their marriage, alone or distant from their partner, disillusioned or bored in their marriage, or who are expe-riencing coldness or conflict. The weekends involve in-tensive work on communication skills and provide the foundation for the forgiveness and trust essential for re-building broken marriages. The six post-sessions frame up the concepts and provide practical solutions such as a method to resolve conflicts in a way that avoids the hurts of the past. Retrouvaille is a catholic ministry that is supported by Bishop Deshotel and the Family Life Office of the Dio-cese of Lafayette. Retrouvaille encourages individual and spiritual growth and the ultimate goal is to reinstall in hurting couples the joy and satisfaction of sacramental marriage. For more information or to register for the weekend, please contact 337-298-5170 or 985-714-2442 or visit our website at www.HelpOurMarriage.com
