SmartBay National Infrastructure Access

Programme

• The goal of the NIAP programme is to

grow the user base to encompass

academic research teams, SME’s, and

MNC’s nationally and internationally

• NIAP fund is available to enable

researchers to access the SmartBay

Infrastructure.

• Research proposals must fit under the

objectives of the SmartBay PRTLI Cycle

5 programme

• 20 NIAPS have been awarded to date

• Evaluations of Larger NIAP Projects for

2014 recently completed

Kinvara Bay Objectives

•Develop mobile, wireless-enabled

sensing system

•Mapping of conductivity,

temperature, depth with high temporal

and spatial resolution

•Conduct boat-based transects of

Kinvara bay in order to determine

quantity of submarine freshwater

inputs from north Galway karst

system

Test Program

•Three fixed angle of inclination (between 0 - 90

Degrees to Horizontal)

•Wave movement about a fixed angle of inclination

(+/- 20 Degrees about fixed angles)

•Impact of debris or surface occlusion

•Weather (test on both sunny and overcast days)

Proposed Cable Site

• Subsea floor cable of 5km to support subsea nodes with 400v power and high speed communications via optical fibres

• The nodes can host a complement of client sensors which can be tested and demonstrated in near real time.

• Data will be available to users through a dedicated web portal and further analytics can be applied to the data collected for a variety of user applications
