NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME, UNIT NO:49 SREE SANKARA VIDYAPEETOM COLLEGE REPORT: 2018-19 An Advisory Committee has been constituted for the academic year 2018-19. June 5- World Environment Day NSS activities for the academic year 2018-19 commenced on June 5 by celebrating World Environment Day. The celebration was held in order to educate the students about the importance of Environment and the need to protect our Echo system. Principal Dr. Padma. P inaugurated the scheme ‘Plan Your Own Tree’ by planting a sapling in the college campus. In connection with the programme Seminar and Quiz competition also conducted. The volunteers whole heartedly participated the programme. 78 students participated and 78 saplings were planted in the campus. Planting staples Distribution of study materials June 7-Distribution of Study Materials-Mashithandu- As part of the Mashithandu Project, NSS volunteers along with other students and teaching and non-teaching staff of SSV college, collected study materials and distributed to the students of Mamalakandam Tribal School through the Keezhillam Unit on 07-06-2018. Study materials were also giver to other poor students also. JUNE 9 : On June 9, in association with the Organic Club, protective shields were also constructed to protect the plants. Some agricultural activities were also undertaken by the volunteers and members of Organic Club.

An Advisory Committee has been constituted for the academic year 2018-19.

June 5- World Environment Day

NSS activities for the academic year 2018-19 commenced on June 5 by celebrating World Environment

Day. The celebration was held in order to educate the students about the importance of Environment

and the need to protect our Echo system. Principal Dr. Padma. P inaugurated the scheme ‘Plan Your

June 21: Yoga Day:

NSS Unit of SSV College, in association with the Yoga Club celebrated the Yoga Day on 21st June 2018.

As part of the celebration, all the NSS volunteers , other students and teachers assembled at SSV College

gate at 9.15 AM. A Cycle Rally was conducted by the volunteers to Valayanchirangara and back. After

the rally a Seminar on Yoga and Yoga practice was conducted under the leadership of Physical

EducationDirector Sri. Anoop Jain.

July 14- Mega Jackfruit Planting Programme

On 2018 July 14th nearly hundred Jack Fruit Plants were planted as part of Kerala

Government’s Project of ‘Planting One Lakh Jack Fruit Plants’. The Ward Member Smt. Sathi Rajan

inaugurated the project by planting tree in the campus. Teachers and other students also participated

July 26-Blood Donation Camp I

In association with the District Hospital ,Aluva the NSS unit of SSV College organized a Blood

Donation Camp on 26th July 2018. The camp was inaugurated by the college Manager Prof. Krishnan

Namboothiri. District Panchayat Member Sri Arun and Mazhuvannur Panchayat member Smt.Sathi

Rajan participated. NSS volunteers and other students of college were also donated

August 1- Pen and Paper Bag making Demo

A Training Camp on Paper Pen and Paper Bag making is organized by SSV College under the

leadership of NSS on 1st August 2018 for the NSS volunteers and the students of SSV college

August 4-One Day Camp (Sramadan): The First SRAMA-DHAN for the First year students was

organized on 4th August 2018. College Principal Dr Padma.P inaugurated the camp with the leadership of

Programme Officers. The Volunteer Secretaries assisted the programme officers. The sramadan

(cleaning of college campus) started at 9.30.A.M and ended at 12.30 P.M.In the afternoon ice breaking

session and cultural programmes were also conducted .The Day Officer Vinayak.P.V controlled the camp

successfully.

August 6& 9 : HIROSHIMA and NAGAZAKI day was observed by the NSS volunteers of SSV

college by poster presentations and making thousand paper Sudoku birds.

ONE DAY CAMP-Meeting Hiroshima day observance

August 15- Independence Day: India’s 71st Independence day celebrated on 15th

August 2018 in the college. Principal Dr Padma.P hosted the National Flag .Along with NSS volunteers

the other students and teachers of SSV college also participated. The Principal delivered the

Independence Day message in the meeting held after the flag hoisting. Sweets also distributed to

participants.

August 15-26 Flood Relief activities : Flood Relief activities were organized in the

college under the leadership of NSS. College Management, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff, Alumni

and the students of SSV college generously contributed Food, Cloth , Medicines and other necessities

to be distributed at the camps in Koovapady Paravoor, Perumbavoor etc.

A training given by the Panchayath of MAZHUVANOOR,POOTHRIKKA AND AIKARNADU officials to

the NSS volunteers in Mobile application to conduct survey in flood affected areas under the

supervision of Government to know how much affected each one in the flood. The training was given by

the technical assistance of Panchayats under the supervision of Panchayath Performance Audit Officers.

September 5-Teachers Day: NSS Volunteers observed teachers day by getting blessings from

their teachers and giving presents and mementos to them.

September 5-Blood Donation Camp-II- The NSS unit of SSV College and Department of

Commerce had jointly organised a blood donation camp( II cycle) on 05/09/2018 (Wednesday) in

association with the District Hospital, Aluva. The registration for blood donation was done earlier. The

blood donation camp was inaugurated by Sri.Anand Sankar, Department of History) by donating blood.

41 donors donated their blood. It was decided to conduct the camp again in the near future. The camp

was ended by 2.00 pm.

Blood Donation Camp Teachers Day

September 8 –ONE DAY CAMP- The NSS unit of SSV College conducted camp for sramadan and

maintenance of agriculture activities till noon. The volunteers along with programme officers visited

BALAMANDIR, Mazhuvannoor and donated around 500 books to their library. There are 40 inmates

studying from 5th std.to Plus two.e spent around three hours with them by conducting cultural

programmes. The camp was ended by 4.00 pm.

September 14-16-SURVEY ON FLOOD AFFECTED HOUSES : The survey conducted In

September in flood affected areas . For this, volunteers were divided into batches . Survey completed in

Mazhuvannoor, AIkarnadu and Poothrikka panchayaths within a short period successfully.

September 24 –NSS DAY NSS DAY was celebrated on 24th September 2018 .Former NSS

Programme Officer of Cochin College, Former Co-ordinater of M.G.University and Former Vice

Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit,Kalady, Dr.M.C.Dileep Kumar inaugurated the

day. In the meeting College Manager Krishnan Namboothiri and Principal Dr Padma.P also participated.

A poster presentation was also arranged in the campus.

October 2 GANDHI JAYANTHI IS observed by the NSS volunteers through the SRAM-DHAN

on 2nd October 2018. The camp started by a SWATCHA BHARAT RALLY at 9.30 am and a Sramadan till

12.30 in the afternoon. In the afternoon session , pro-officer Viswan.M.G presented a programme

about NSS in the P.N.NAMBOOTHIRI hall and conducted a quiz on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. 1st and

2nd year volunteers participated in the camp very interestingly.

NSS DAY Celebrations Swatch Bharat Rally on October 2

October 12-14 Three Day Camp: Our THREE DAY CAMP started from 12th October to 14th

Octobe . Inaugural session started at 5.00 P.M. Principal Dr Padma .P presided over the function and

,Prof. S K Krishnan inaugurated the camp. Mazhuvannoor panchayath member Smt. Sathi Rajan, College

Union Chairman, NSS Secretaries and NSS volunteers attended the meeting. After the meeting cultural

programme was conducted. In the Second day gardening, agriculture, and cleaning took place very

successfully. Three Waste drums were painted and keep at the campus. After the lunch break a class

under the leadership of an officer from the Electricity Board was conducted. In the third day of the camp

evaluation took place and camp ended at the afternoon itself.

Waste Bin Making Sramadan-Swatchatha

December 5-Blood Donation Camp - Third BLOOD DONATION CAMP was organized by

the NSS unit of SSV college on 5th December 2018 in association with Ernakulam IMA . The camp was

conducted at the Self Finance Block. Respected Principal Dr.Padma.P inaugurated the camp. Teaching

and Non-teaching staff and the students and volunteers of SSV college participated in the camp. More

than 40 persons gave blood and made it a great success. By the sponsorship of HDFC Bank the donors of

blood treated with refreshments and a water bottle.

NSS PTA meeting was conducted on 17th December 2018. The main aim of the meeting was to

convince the parents about the 7day camp and its advantage. Principal Dr.Padma.P inaugurated the

meeting. Pro-Officers also assisted the meeting. Parents of NSS volunteers attended the meeting.

Pre-Camp meeting before the Seven Day Camp was organized on December-20-2018 to give

instructions to the volunteers for the Seven Day Camp.

Seven Day Camp (Special Camp) started from 21st December 2018 to 27th December. The Camp

conducted at Ganapathi Vilasam High School, Koovapady. The camp was inaugurated by PROF.S.K.

Krishnan,(Manager,SSV College) The main motto of the camp was to clean the flood affected areas of

Koovapady Panchayat with special emphasize on water bodies. The camp team celebrated Xmas at

Abhaya Bhavan, an orphanage for mentally retarded people. A hand written Magazine by the volunteers

was also released at the Valedictory Session.

2019 January 12- National Youth Day- The birth day of Swami Vivekanada has been

celebrated by the NSS Unit. As part of the celebration, a dance fiction by the volunteers was performed

at Centre Square mall, Muvattupuzha as part of the the programme” NAVA KERALATHINU ORU CHAYA”

conducted by Enliven IAS academy.

January 23 SAMAKSHAM Release-As per the direction from the university ,our unit made

arrangements for “ Samaksham “release and watched by the staff and some volunteers on the day.All

students watched film in consecutive days.

January 26- Republic Day: Our Unit celebrated republic day.The collge principal hoisted flag by 9

am and after that volunteers conducted a republic day rally. At the meeting held thereafter ,volunteers

actively participated in the quiz conducted on the history of India.

Samaksham release Republic day rally

March 21-Voters Awareness camp: By the initiative of NSS unit,and in association with

Kunnathunadu Thaluk (Election wing) conducted an election awareness programme to all staff and

students of our college at 11 am. It is called SVEEP in which the modus operandi of VVPAT and the

importance of voting in democracy is explained by the officials. Practical session for voting was also

arranged.The session ended by 1 PM.

March -22 World Water Day was observed on March 22 -2019. Pledge was taken by the NSS

Unit to convey the importance of water conservation. A chart presentation by the volunteers was also

arranged at the college.

March 23-ONE DAY PROGRAM-SENT OFF to Seniors

The NSS activities of this year is ended with an official sent off meeting to give farewell to NSS senior

volunteers. Students gave memorable remarks to their seniors.
