Background
• July 2010 Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure for Improved Health Outcomes Grant– Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
• Prevention and Public Health Fund established through PL 111-148 to:
“ provide for expanded and sustained national investment in prevention and public health programs to improve health and help restrain the rate of growth in private and public sector health care costs” (HHS, 2010, p. 2).
– Component 1 – noncompetitive funding for public health transformation
– Component 2 – competitive enhanced funding for specific infrastructure investments
Our vision is 'healthy Kansans living in safe and sustainable environments'.
Why is this important?
“The 5-year initiative provides US state, tribal, local and territorial health departments with resources to adopt and institutionalize cross cutting performance management and quality improvement methods and approaches to improve accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness of public health programs and services” (OSTLTS, 2010, no page number).
