Who We Are

Tract is a national planning and design practice specialising in town planning, urban design, landscape architecture and associated digital media.

As planners and designers our charter is to deliver sustainable and memorable solutions, shaping places for living, leisure and work, and the infrastructure that supports and connects these places. We do this by harnessing the strength and diversity of our collective expertise.

Our comprehensive planning and design services, and the scale and pedigree of our practice provide the capacity to address projects of all scales and complexities.

After 40 years of practice, we continue to evolve so that we shape contemporary thinking, working in partnership with our clients to deliver compelling solutions. This is because technology, community aspirations and responsibilities to the local and global environments do not remain static.

Project outcomes benefit from our inter-disciplinary cohort, as well as our established networks throughout the private sector and all tiers of government.

We pair a comprehensive knowledge of policy and process, with resourceful approaches to solution making.

As planners and designers our charter is to positively impact built environments and the communities they support. We shape places for civic interaction, conduits for movement, places to live, work and visit.

Tract, as town planner, urban designer, and landscape architect, spans the range of project types from infrastructure to institutions, new towns to waterfronts, parks to private garden. Our work is highly regarded by our peers and industry which is reflected in the honor rolls of design competitions and awards.

We are equipped to respond to new challenges - addressing climatic, demographic and spatial pressures to optimise tangible outcomes. Internally, we invest in a culture of inquiry. Our group is involved in professional associations, industry, cultural programs and academia. We undertake design and ideas competitions, conduct forums and, engage in public discourse – to maintain active engagement and participation in current practice.

As a large organisation, we are equipped to service technical; design and administration issues for projects of all scales. Much of our work is from repeat clients, from all levels of government and the private sector, which is a testament to our capable and creative staff; commitment to service, project delivery and responsiveness.

How We Work

Tract has been involved in almost all of the types of major land-use changes that have so challenged the aesthetic, functional, and special environment in which we live. — Peter Walker, FASLA

Landscape Architecture

Our approach is to ensure the landscape architectural treatment for any site is of the highest design quality that respects the environment and all its inhabitants. We seek to produce enduring, site sensitive, high quality designs that express a unique sense of place.

Our appreciation of the multiple and often conflicting aspirations for the space underpins our design response. It is our charter to create interesting and creative spaces.

We work on projects at all scales and levels of complexity, pairing a strong contemporary design sensibility and technical excellence, to deliver award winning projects.

Tract provides a comprehensive range of landscape architectural services and design leadership to drive pragmatic, cohesive and memorable design outcomes.

Urban Design

Urban design covers the spectrum of community place-making, neighbourhood layouts and design, to structure planning for inner and outer urban areas and communal/public spaces.

Our Urban Design team bridge planning and landscape architecture disciplines to provide frameworks that ensure the three dimensional and physical structure of development is appropriate to the site and its context.

Our group is playing an ever increasing role in shaping the built environment. Our diverse portfolio of urban design projects includes collaborative work with the community, government and private developers.

The success of future development must be measured against criteria pertaining to environmental outcomes, social equity, legibility and dynamism. Tract Urban Design is equipped with the skills, resources and alliances to respond to these criteria to deliver appropriate outcomes that will stand the test of time.
