A Little TriviaI am sure you have all heard the term

“God willing and the Creek don’t rise”,but do you really know where the sayingcame from? Most think the Creek has todo with water and flooding, but one inter-pretation of the saying is this; BenjaminHawkins who was an American planter, statesman and U. S. Indian agent, wasrequested to return to Washington D. C.by then President Thomas Jefferson.Upon reading the request Hawkins sent areply that read he would return immedi-ately “God willing and the Creek don’trise”. The Creek he refers to in his re-sponse is the Creek Indian tribe and therising has to do whether the Creek Indi-ans were planning to rise and fight ornot. So now you know the rest of thestory. I love to share this story.

News of NarodniarsBest wishes to Bucky Wesnak for

his speedy return to good health. HappyBirthday wishes go out this month toHome Office employee Ryan Strom, for-

mer staff member Jodi Onder, Jim Amorose,Carol Godor, Chelsey Eubank, AndrewBlazek, Pam Tabone, Jan Amick, BellaGrace Bernardo, Jeremiah Moore, andgrandsons Logan Kearney, Hudson Lavin, and Brady Kearney. A very busy birthdaymonth in the Blazek family. Happy wed-ding Anniversary to Lori and Kevin Crow-ley, and Danielle and Jeff Lavin, and to allothers celebrating this month.

The Worst Type of AirlinePassengersI found the following study on the internet

that Expedia compiles each year andthought it might be interesting for our mem-bers whether you travel a little or a lot by air.1. The Rear Seat Kicker: Crowned as thenumber one most annoying type of passen-ger for the third year in a row, rear seat kick-ers can quickly derail a normal flight andreduce it to a flight from hell. Nothing isworse than trying to catch some shut-eyeand continually getting jostled by an incon-siderate passenger behind you. Scathinglooks and muttered comments have no ef-fect on this selfish flier. With that said, whenyou board your next flight, be considerate ofothers; keep your feet firmly planted on thefloor and avoid hitting the seat in front ofyou if you’d like to avoid the hatred of thepassenger in front of you. 2. Chatty Cathy: Some people love makingconnections with fellow passengers and citeit as one of the reasons they love to travel. Andthen there are others who wish to talk as littleas possible to complete strangers. If you’reone who likes to chat, that’s fine if you find afellow conversationalist. But learn to read theroom. If a person has their headphones onand is facing the other direction, take a hintand keep the small talk to a minimum.3. The Aromatic Passenger: Anyone who fre-quently travels using mass transit dreadsthis type of passenger. People who have pun-gent body odor or are too heavy-handed withtheir perfume or cologne, make for terribleflying sardine can mates. People who aresensitive to smell may get sick or get a mi-graine when cooped up with someone smellyin a tight space. Do others a favor and skipthe cologne, but not the shower or deodor-ant, on the day of your flight.4. Pungent Foodies: Offensive food odorshave no place in small airplane cabins! It’spretty nauseating enough for some to fly, addin a whiff of tuna and it’s all over. If you musteat while in the air, avoid bringing very smellyfoods like ethnic dishes, fish or anythingmade with an overpowering amount of garlic.5. The Armrest Hog: We all understand thatpassengers would like to be as comfortableas possible during flights, but not when it’sat the expense of someone else’s comfort. If

you’ve ever had to fight someone for thearmrest on a flight, then you completelyunderstand why 34% of people polled de-test the dreaded “Armrest hog.” If youhave a middle seat that does not entitleyou to both armrests that flank you. Bethoughtful of others and don’t take upmore space than your seat and one arm-rest.6. Inattentive Parents: As the second mosthated passenger, inattentive parentsannoy over 57% of poll respondents andfor good reason. No one wants to dealwith other people’s children when they’realready stressed from the hassle of flying. It’s understandable that children willsometimes cry, but when kids are beingobnoxiously loud or rude to other passen-gers or running amuck, that’s inexcus-able. If you are traveling with yourchildren, make sure to reign them in ifthey’re getting out of hand and alwayskeep an eye on them.7. The Audio Insensitive: Being loud al-ways equates to people disliking you whenyou’re trapped in a tiny space together. We get that you love your music, butother fliers probably don’t. Nor do theywant to hear your loud conversations. Alot of people like to sleep or get work donewhile they’re flying so keep your music toa decent volume and your talking to aminimum to avoid disturbing others.8. The Boozer: Excessively drunk peoplearen’t fun in any situation let alone on acramped flight. Between the obnoxiousbehavior and the stench that emanatesfrom inebriated people, it’s not surprisingthat they wound up on the list of terriblepassengers. Having a few drinks to takethe edge off isn’t frowned upon, but trynot to cross the line from nicely buzzed toblackout drunk.9. Seat-Back Guy: Although we all want tobe comfortable, there’s something irritat-ing about the person who reclines theirseat as soon as the flight takes off. Ifyou must recline your seat, be courteousand ask if the person behind you minds,or only do it halfway.10. The Mad Bladder: This guy has abladder the size of a pea, but yet bookeda window seat. So, naturally, you have tobe disturbed every 25 minutes so he canrun to the john. If you know you havebladder problems, book an aisle seatwith a convenient location to the rest-rooms. Hopefully these tips will help usall be better passengers and more con-siderate of our fellow travelers.

What are the Dog Days of Summer? The “Dog Days” are based in astronomy. The Old Farmer’s Almanac lists the tra-

ditional timing of the Dog Days: the 40 days beginning July 3rd and ending August11th, coinciding with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. The rising of Sirius does not actually affect the weather (some of our hottest and

most humid days occur after August 11th), but for the ancient Egyptians, Siriusappeared just before the season of the Nile’s flooding, so they used the star as a“watchdog” for that event.Since its rising also coincided with a time of extreme heat, the connection with

hot, sultry weather was made for all time:Dog Days bright and clear

Indicate a happy year. But when accompanied by rain,

For better times our hopes are vain.

A Parent or About to Become OneRaising a child is one of the most rewarding things a person can do in life. But it’salso one of the most expensive. If you died tomorrow, would your spouse have the wherewithal to provide yourchildren with the opportunities you always dreamedthey’d have? From diapers to diplomas, would there beenough income to pay for daycare, a college educationand everything in between? Even parents who don’twork outside the home need life insurance because theyprovide services that would be expensive to replace, such as childcare, transportation and managing thehousehold. And what about single parents? They need life insurance more than any-one because their children rely on them for everything.

Changing JobsIf you’ve recently been promoted or changed jobs, it’s a good time to re-evaluate yourlife insurance coverage. Why? You may not realize it, but when your income rises, your spending tends to rise, too. Updating your life insurance coverage can help en-sure that your family would be able to maintain its new and improved lifestyle ifsomething were to happen to you.

Retired or Planning for RetirementIf your children are on their own and your mortgage is paid off,you might feel your need for life insurance has passed. But ifyou died today, your spouse could outlive you by 10, 20 or 30years. Would your spouse have to make drastic lifestyle adjust-ments to make ends meet? Adequate life insurance coverage

can help widows and widowers avoid financial struggles in retirement.

SingleMost single people don’t have a pressing need for life insurance because no onedepends on them financially. But there are exceptions. If you’re providing financialsupport for aging parents or siblings, or if you’re carrying significant debt youwouldn’t want passed on to family members, you should consider life insurance.

Insuring The Times OfYour LifeIf someone depends on you financially, you probably need life insurance. Hereare some examples of specific lifestages or life events that might triggerthe need for life insurance.

Married or GettingMarried

Many families de-pend on two in-comes to make endsmeet. If you diedsuddenly, wouldyour spouse haveenough money

to cover funeral costs, credit card bal-ances, outstanding loans and daily liv-ing expenses?

A HomeownerIf you’re like most people, your homeis your most significant financial asset.Life insurance can be used to paydown or retire the mortgage, sparingyour family from moving to a less ex-pensive place to live. Plus, it can pro-vide the funds needed to help familymembers maintain the lifestyle towhich they’re accustomed.
