Yaaaaaaaah, fall is here, and I sure hope the weather will show
us lower temps. And along with cooler weather is the yearly
rent increase, so remember on your Oct. invoice the new rates
will be on them, along with the state $5.00 filing fee. Seems that
years fly by faster and faster and I seem to get slower and
slower. And of course the holidays are just around the corner,
so who’s ready for that? Please check with the calendar as the
Winward Lakes Activities committee has several activities
planned, and they would love to have you join in. Don’t forget
the home owner’s association still has monthly dinners.
We hope you have made a trip down to the pool area to see the
changes that have taken place this last summer along with the
clubhouse.
I am not sure when the yearly survey will be showing up at
your home, but please take the time to fill it out and send it
back. This is the easiest way for Steiners and we the managers
to discuss what improvements you would like to see.
Those of you, who live around the lakes, have seen several
residents place sea walls on their property, and you see how
wonderful it looks, along with how they receive more yard. If
you are interested please contact the office and see what the
payment plan would be.
Also remember if you would like to upgrade your home come in
and we will talk.

On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.
Ancient Origins of Halloween. Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.

HISTORY
Within our research, we were unable to find the creator or origin of National
Name Your Car Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.
Dog waste left on the street is not only obnoxious and gross–it can also be dangerous, making its way into our water supply if not disposed of correctly. 5 reasons people might not pick up what their dogs leave behind: 1. They think dog poop is natural. It is not (especially in the quantities that are generated by our pets) and harms the environment and threatens public health 2. They think that picking up dog poop is gross 3. They forgot a bag 4. They don’t want to carry it with them 5. It’s not a law, or they don’t know it is a law (because it is in some places), so they think they don’t have to or it’s not that important.
NATIONAL DO SOMETHING NICE DAY
Each year on October 5th people across the nation observe National Do
Something Nice Day.
National Do Something Nice Day is very similar to National Random Acts of
Kindness Day, which is celebrated on February 17th.
It would be ideal if everyone lived their lives doing something nice, or doing
nice things, on a daily basis and without thinking about it. Today serves as a
reminder to us all, as it is easy to get caught up with hectic schedules and
fast paced lifestyles, to stop for a moment and do something nice.
“Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out”
A U.S. national holiday since 1937, Columbus Day commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the New World on October 12, 1492. The Italian-born explorer had set sail two months earlier, backed by the Spanish monarchs King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He intended to chart a western sea route to China, India and the fabled gold and Spice Islands of Asia; instead, he landed in the Bahamas, becoming the first European to explore the Americas since the Vikings set up colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland during the 10th century. Contrary to popular belief, most educated Europeans in Columbus' day understood that the world was round, but they did not yet know that the Pacific Ocean existed. As a result, Columbus and his contemporaries assumed that only the Atlantic lay between Europe and the riches of the East Indies. Later that month, Columbus sighted Cuba and believed it was mainland China; in December the expedition found Hispaniola, which he thought might be Japan. There, he established Spain’s first colony in the Americas with 39 of his men. In March 1493, the explorer returned to Spain in triumph, bearing gold, spices and “Indian” captives. He crossed the Atlantic several more times before his death in 1506; by his third journey, he realized that he hadn’t reached Asia but instead had stumbled upon a continent previously unknown to Europeans.
Significance of Sweetest Day 2016
Sweetest Day 2016 is a holiday celebrated in some parts of the United
States. It is a day of romantic deeds or expressions and is a day to
remember the less fortunate. Sweetest Day 2016 has also been referred
to as a "concocted promotion" created by the candy industry solely to
increase sales of sweets and cards. Sweetest Day is observed on the
third Saturday in October.
History of Sweetest Day
The origin of Sweetest Day 2016 is disputed. A widely accepted theory is
that the first Sweetest Day was on October 10, 1921 in Cleveland when a
committee of 12 candy makers led by C.C. Hartzell, gathered together in
1921 and delivered 20,000 boxes of candies and chocolates to the less-
privileged in the city, with assistance from film stars Theda Bara and Ann
Pennington.
A second theory is that in 1922, a candy-store owner in Cleveland named
Herbert Birch Kingston wanted to remember people in the city who were
underprivileged and less fortunate. He distributed candy and chocolates
to many of the hospitals and orphanages in the area. Other theories
propose that the holiday was created by greeting card companies in order
to sell more candy and cards, but this theory is widely rejected based on
evidence.
There were also several attempts to start a "Sweetest Day" in New York
City, including a declaration of a Candy Day throughout the United States
by candy manufacturers on October 8, 1922. In 1927, there was a
decreed that the week beginning on October 10, 1927 would be known
as Sweetest Week.
History of Boss's Day
The history of Boss's Day 2016 dates back to 1958 when the concept of
National Boss Day was founded by Patricia Bays Haroski, then an
employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois. That
year, Patricia Bays Haroski registered the holiday with the United States
Chamber of Commerce. She designated October 16 as the special day
because it was her father's birthday, who also happened to be her boss.
Four years later in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski's
registration and officially proclaimed the day.

Manufactured House vs. Regular Home
Today’s manufactured house has come a long way from the manufactured homes of the past. In many ways, they are very similar to regular houses and often cannot be distinguished from each other. However, there are very real and significant differences that are important when considering a choice between the two types of homes.
Manufactured Homes Manufactured homes used to be called mobile home or trailers in the past. These homes are put together at the manufacturing facility and transported to the home site, often in sections. Manufactured homes come in single-wide, double-wide and triple-wide options and are joined together on site. This type of home is often transported on their own wheels, which is why they used to be called trailer homes. They are constructed on non-removable steel chassis and placed on a semi-permanent raised foundation. Unlike a regular home, manufactured homes are regulated by HUD codes, not local building codes and when sold title transfer happens with a transfer of HUD title, not land title. As a result, often a special title search is required before a sale can be completed. On the interior, contemporary manufactured homes look like traditional homes. No longer are wall constructed with flimsy wall finishes and solid molded kitchen countertops are no longer the norm. Instead, interior walls are modern looking plastered walls and kitchens have modern appliances and countertops constructed of tile, Corian or even granite. Bathrooms may have jetted tubs and even cedar lined walk-in closets are common now. Probably one of the most attractive features of a contemporary manufactured home is the price. In many cases, a manufactured home can be as much as half to one-third the cost of a regular traditional home, making it a reasonable option for retired individuals or people with a limited income.
Regular Homes Regular homes, in contract, are much more expensive than manufactured homes. A newly constructed regular house is regulated by local county and city building codes and must undergo multiple inspections before the home is completed. Also, a regular house is constructed on site rather than constructed at a manufacturing facility. On the other hand, a regular house often gains substantially in value over time and even with changes in the housing market, it will eventually regain in value. Many manufactured homes decrease in value unless they are installed in a highly desirable location and have abundant desired features in the home. Another argument in favor of a traditionally built regular home when it comes to resale is the market for potential buyers. In many cases, it is difficult to find financing for an existing manufactured home. This makes the market for this type of home severely limited when compared to a regular house. One of the significant arguments for a regular home is the substantial differences in construction. While manufactured homes have gained significantly in safety features, they still come up short when
compared to resistance to strong winds in areas that are prone to hurricanes and tornadoes.
Summary Contemporary manufactured homes have made many gains on old fashioned mobile or trailer homes. However, if a manufactured house is to be resold, it has a substantially limited market. Regular houses are more expensive to purchase than manufactured homes, but they also gain in value over time.
