National Library of Viet Nam organizes training course on application of cataloging rule "Resource Description and Access" – the Vietnamese edition (Training of Trainers - ToT)

In the morning of April 23, 2018, the National Library of Viet Nam (NLV) held the trainingcourse on application of cataloging rules "Resource Description andAccess" - Vietnamese edition (Training of Trainers - ToT) lecturing by Dr.Daniel G. Dorner - Senior Lecturer, Victoria University of Wellington - New Zealand, Advisor forInformation Management Programs, from 23 - 28 April, 2018.

Attending the opening ceremony of the training course were Dr. Vu Duong Thuy Nga -Director of Library Department; Ass.Pof. Le Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of Training Department,Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; MA. Kieu Thuy Nga – the NLV’s Director, together withthe deputy directors, heads and deputy heads of the library’s divisions and participants from theNLV, libraries and information training institutions and major libraries throughout the country.

The cataloging rules Resource Description and Access - RDA is inherit of AACR2, but isdesigned for the digital environment in response to changes and developments in informationresources. The birth of RDA marked a significant change, a step forward in cataloging inparticular, in library science in general, and has been officially applied in many large libraries inthe world.

The training course will introduce all important knowledge about the RDA cataloging rules;bibliographic standards and RDA; attributes of manifestations and items, recording attributes ofworks and expressions, of persons, families and corporates ... to help participants understandthe principles of description, exploitation of resources; the way to apply the rules in RDA toprovide descriptions for different types of information resources.

The knowledge gained by the trainees at this training course will help them master theprofessional skills for implementation, as well as ensure the organization of using the catalogingrules "Resources Description and Access” - Vietnamese edition in their localities andinstitutions.

Following the ToT, the NLV will organize further training courses of application the cataloging
