What makes us candidate for Institute of National Importance?

● As mentioned earlier, the Institute is fully funded by the Ministryof Human Resource Development, Govt. of India since itsinception.

●The Institute has been at par with Indian School of Mines,Dhanbad, NITIE, Mumbai and School of Architecture and Planning,New Delhi from inception.

●We were conducting our own Entrance Examination for B. Tech.courses from 1991 till 2001 at 5 centers across India, viz. NewDelhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ranchi.

● Admission for undergraduate courses is through JEE (Mains)

Page 26: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Why Institute of National Importance?

●The Institute is fully funded by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of Indiaas in the case of Institute of National Importance.

● For the similar branches (of the Institute) offered at present bysome of the Institute of National Importance, the ranks of GeneralCategory students admitted through AIEEE is much better.

●More than 90% of the Faculty are PhD qualified.

● Existence of National character among faculty (distributionthroughout India).

Page 27: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Why Institute of National Importance?

● Research activities and publications, after scaling are comparable (withInstitute of National Importance)

● 100% placement over the years that too only in the core sector, No softwarecompanies.

● The process of students registration, issue of admit cards and migrationcertificates and the award of degree certificate becomes cumbersome andtime-consuming.

● Though the syllabus is also formulated by the Institute, its implementationrequires the approval of Ranchi University. This makes the response time(to update the syllabus in line with market needs) bigger.

Page 28: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Why Institute of National Importance?

● The PhD students admitted to the Institute also require to be registeredwith Ranchi University. The process of such registration is much morecumbersome and time-consuming than the B. Tech. and M. Tech. courses.

● Starting of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses is anotherdifficult task under the present setup.

● Without administrative autonomy with respect to academics, it is difficultto realize our dream of being the Institution of National Importance.

● It is imperative that the achievement of our vision and mission would beimpossible without delinking from the University affiliation setup.

Page 29: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Why Institute of National Importance?

● Independence from University affiliation only can make it possiblefor us to make appropriate decisions, best suited to academicsfrom time-to-time, and implement them as needed.

● Institute of National Importance would mean greater academicautonomy, better brand value to the Institute, increased visibilityto perspective students and employers of these students andbetter perception about the Institute by Industries.

Page 30: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Summary

● It is believed that repositioning of NIFFT to Institute of NationalImportance/IIT/IIEST status could revitalize the entire Institute unleashing theenergies, which are currently lying dormant and underutilized.

● The other advantages of such upgradation are as follows:

Brand value of the Institute would increase

Help the Institute getting better students and faculty members;

Help in getting better and wider placement of students;

Visibility of the Institute would increase;

Better perceptibility of the Institute by Industries;

Page 31: National Institute of Foundry and Forget Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi

Summary (Cont.)

Institute would provide world class education at low cost;

Institute can attract foreign students;

Academic autonomy would enable the Institute to run newundergraduate and postgraduate programmes; and

Programmes for dual degrees and part-time courses would haveattractive demand.
