In May 2012, the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly endorsed the Global Vaccine Action Plan for the “Decade of Vaccines (2011-20).
One of the goals for the Decade of Vaccines is that all the countries reach 90% national coverage with the three doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-containing vaccines (DTP3) by 2015.
At the request of the Health Assembly, WHO, along with other global partners, established a monitoring and accountability process that involves an independent review by the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on immunization. The SAGE assessment report is presented annually to the Health Assembly, through the Executive Board.
In 2014, the SAGE assessment report noted that the implementation of the GVAP thus far has been weak and progress towards meeting 5 of the 6 targets for 2014 and 2015, namely those related to immunization coverage, interruption of Polio transmission, and elimination of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus, Measles and Rubella, was off-track. Achieving high and equitable immunization coverage underpins the progress with all the remaining eradication, elimination and disease control goals.
In this document, you will find the national coverage for DTP 1st dose, 3rd dose by country for each WHO region for year 2013 (more recent data) and also a graph showing DTP3 national trends for last 4 years.
The source of data are the WHO UNICEF Estimates of National Immunization Coverage (WUENIC)1 for 2013.
