Activities Undertaken: Promotion and availability of improved varieties. Perspective plan for Seed Production chain. Implementation of Seed Village Programme. Seed treatment campaign. Area Expansion under improved varities. Promoting Pulses on post Paddy residual moisture . Encouragement of INM and IPM . Adoption of In-situ moisture conservation techniques. Protective irrigation at critical stage. Promoting Micro-irrigation. Promoting Mechanization in Pulses Production(BBF planter). Promotion of Bidar technology.

NFSM Pulse Mission

Major Interventions in Pulse production programme-2012-13

• Area expansion : In Paddy zone on residual moisture.

• Varietal replacement : Lathyrus mini-kit in Eastern

Vidarbha and Gram in Konkan region.

• Situation based interventions: In-situ moisture

conservation, adoption of INM and IPM.

• Increased coverage of area under lathyrus : 11,000 ha

in Vidarbha region

Page 9: National Conference on Agriculture Rabi Campaign - 2013

Proposed Interventions under Pulses production programme

• Inclusion of Seed subsidy component : For Production and distribution of breeder and foundation seed.

• Seed Minikits : For promotion of new varieties. • Water storage structures for protective irrigation – Farm

ponds.• Moisture conservation technology tools

- BBF Planter, Ridge - Furrow planter• Inclusion of ToF component.• Creation of storage infrastructure.• Value addition through post harvest technology.• Market led extension.

Bidar Technology in Red Gram

10

• Seedling Preparation : 3 to 4 weeks prior to monsoon

• Spacing :Heavy soils: 6 X 2 or 6 X 3 ft.Medium soils: 5X2 or 5X3 ft.

•Nipping : 20 - 30 days after transplanting

• Escape mechanism for pest and moisture stress

• Early planting and Early harvest• 40 % increase over normal yield.

Farm ponds for protective irrigations

• No. of farm ponds completed: 1,34,522

• Farm pond under pulse programme: 4469

• Per farm pond area irrigated :-

-Flood irrigation: 1 - 1.25 ha.

- Sprinklers : 2 – 2.25 ha.

• Rise in ground water level by 0.5 - 1 Meter.

•Useful to irrigate at critical crop stage under

dry spell

• Useful in saline tract of vidhrbha region of

Maharashtra.

ISOPOM Scheme Implementing Strategy

• Soybean, Groundnut, Safflower, Sesamum and Maize are major crops selected in the scheme.

• Higher area and higher productivity , Higher area and low productivity criteria is applied to select districts.

• Cluster approach • Project mode implementation• Timely supply of inputs and technology. • Public Private Partnership initiative – Soybean,

Maize and Safflower

Agro advisory through SMS

• Objectives: – Timely, precise and location specific advisory to

the farmers on crop management, crop health, Agro- metrology etc.

– Information to the farmers on important events and schemes.

– Advisory delivered in Marathi and English

3.90 lakh Farmers registered 69.93 lakh SMS advisory broadcasted till 15th Sept. 2013 Advisory on 43 Major crops

Outcome of Surveillance and Monitoring of pest and disease CROPSAP Project

• There were huge crop losses due to pest attack on soybean crop in 2008-09.

• Through this project, pest incidence on Rice, Soybean, Cotton, Tur and Gram crops is scientifically and rigorously monitored on-line.

• Experts send advice on-line to Field Officers and advisory SMS are sent to farmers. 3.90 lakh farmers registered for this service.

• Since inception of project there is no outbreak of any major pests on crops under project.

• Project extended to Mango, Pomegranate and Banana crops from 2011-12 covering additional 2 lakh hectares.

Specific issues and suggestions – NFSM Pulses1) Subsidy component of breeder and certified seed production is deleted

from 2012-13. This crucial component needs to be continued.

Issues - ISOPOM • Phospo Gypsum contains heavy metals and

traces of radioactive elements, which are unhealthy for soil, crops and human being .

• SSP & Bentonite Sulphate can be the alternative for gypsum

• 80 % WDG Sulphur was permitted only for trial purpose and it is also not included in FCO

• Subsidy norms need to be revised
