Statement of Intended UseNGPOD® is designed to signal to the clinical practitioner that the presence of a substance with a pH below 5.5 has been detected. When the NGPOD® device is used in the correct manner a positive signal can typically be understood to mean that the presence of stomach acid has been detected.

It is the responsibility of the clinical practitioner, based on the signal from the NGPOD® device together with his or her own skills and experience, to make the final judgment as to the successful emplacement of the feeding tube and therefore whether feeding may safely proceed.

These instructions DO NOT replace local guidelines for NGT placement.

NB. A positive signal from the NGPOD® device DOES NOT on its own constitute absolute or definitive evidence that a feeding tube is properly emplaced.

This Quick User Guide is a step by step illustrative guide on how to use the NGPOD®

Download our app and follow the instructions (IOS + Android)

Step 1 - NGPOD® Self-Test Check

1. Ensure the NGPOD® Collar and Cap are in place

If the Cap is not in place, the Self-Test will fail

2. Press and release the Power button and observe the following light sequence: RED – AMBER - GREEN

Page 5: Nasogastric Feeding Tube Placement Confirmation Device

3. The amber LED next to the power button flashes 3 times followed by a single red LED flash to indicate the device is in 'Sensor Check' mode. This sequence will continue until the POD is connected to a good sensor

If the Self-Test fails, red LED will illuminate 4 times and the device will shut down. Refer to full Instructions for Use Troubleshooting section for further information

4. Device has now entered Sensor Check mode

Step 2 - Sensor Check Mode

1. Open Sensor package slightly to access the grey Sensor Connector whilst leaving the tip of the sensor inside the packaging

The NGPOD® amber LED next to the power button should be flashing 3 times followed by a single red LED flash

2. Remove the Cap and hold the POD so you can see the LED indicator lights clearly

3. Connect the NGPOD® to the Sensor Connector and

look for a single green LED flash to indicate the device is ready to be used

If successful, the amber LED will now flash once every 2 seconds, the device is now ready to be used.

Check sensor length is the appropriate length for the NG tube (indicated on packaging)

Unless the patient already has a nasogastric tube in place, Intubate patient with NG tube as normal.

If there is a guidewire in place remove this before attempting to insert the Sensor

1. Remove Sensor from packaging and insert into the NG tube until the grey Sensor Connector reaches the NG tube cap

Step 3 - Sensor Insertion

4. Disconnect the Sensor from the NGPOD® and proceed

to step 3

Page 9: Nasogastric Feeding Tube Placement Confirmation Device

3. If NGPOD®

gives a Red result, keep the Sensor in the NG tube and consider the following:

• Waiting 15 seconds and re-testing• Repositioning the NG tube as per local

guidelines and re-testing• Repositioning patient and re-testing

Red indicates that the tip of the Sensor has NOT come into contact with fluids that have a pH less than 5.5

If the NGPOD® continues to give a RED result then

DO NOT commence feed

Green indicates that the tip of the Sensor has come into contact with fluids that have a pH less than 5.5

Do not leave the Sensor in the NG Tube for more than 5 minutes

Page 10: Nasogastric Feeding Tube Placement Confirmation Device

1. Disconnect the Sensor from the NGPOD®

2. Carefully remove the Sensor from the NG tube

3. Dispose Sensor in clinical waste in line with local policy

Step 5 - Remove + Dispose Sensor

Take care not to dislodge the NG tube when removing the sensor

Anti-bacterial cleaning wipes can be used to clean the NGPOD

®

between patients, refer to local policy for cleaning of non-invasive medical devices
