I HIT HAPPY HOUR AT Pinewood Social (pinewoodsocial.com). Get a pitcher of a fancy cocktail and a few dozen oysters and you’re golden. And if we’re going old school, we’ll head to Sperry’s (sperrys.com) in Belle Meade from 5 to 7 p.m. for the Burton’s Bites menu.
I’M TRACKING DOWN the Hummus Chick at the farmers’ market for smooth-as-silk hummus. My favorite is the Spicy Canvas with Pesto. ilovehummuschick .com
A LOCAL RESTAURANT TOTALLY
WORTH THE BUZZ IS The 404 Kitchen, located inside of a shipping container. Chef Matt Bolus is doing some-thing awfully special inside that jewel box. the404nashville .com
I’M TAKING MY DATE TO City House for belly ham pizza and roast chicken with Jezebel Sauce. cityhousenashville.com
MY ROAD TRIP PLAYLIST INCLUDES
Jorge Ben Jor, Darlene Love, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, and a little Charlie Rich on top.
I ESCAPE SUMMER RAINSTORMS AT the Belcourt Theatre. They have local microbrews on tap, and the snack bar is well-curated with way more than just popcorn. belcourt.org
I FIND SHADE AT Radnor Lake. It is truly an oasis in Nashville. Get there early, before the heat rises. radnorlake.org
I’M DRINKING the coffee soda from Crema, a weird but wonderful sparkling coffee beverage. To drink it is to love it. crema-coffee.com
I’M PICNICKING AND CATCHING
THE SUNSET AT Arrington Vineyards, laid out on a blanket with my family. It’s so fun to pack up a light dinner in a cooler and watch the fireflies come out. arringtonvineyards.com
I SCOUR THE FARM STANDS AT the Franklin Farmers Market (franklinfarmersmarket.com). You cannot go without trying Ellie’s Old Fashioned Doughnuts (elliesdoughnuts .com).
FIRE UP THE GRILL AT Martin’s BBQ Joiny. If I’m having barbecue, it’s going to be Pat Martin’s barbecue … with a side of his beans and coleslaw, of course. martinsbbqjoint.com
