Title I Parent Involvement Plan

2018-2019 School Mission Statement emphasizing Parental Involvement: Nasha Shkola is committed to providing quality education for every child in this school. To this end, we want to establish partnerships with parents and with the community. Everyone gains if school and home work together to promote high achievement by our children. Neither home nor school can do the job alone. Parents play an extremely important role as children’s first teachers. Their support for their children and for the school is critical to their children’s success at every step along the way.

Part I. School Expectations (Nasha Shkola is a Charter School)

School must establish the school’s expectations for parent involvement. [Section 1118(a)(2), ESEA.] Nasha Shkola agrees to implement the following requirements:

Nasha Shkola will put into operation programs, activities and procedures for the involvement of parents in all of its schools with Title I programs. Those programs, activities and procedures will be planned and operated with meaningful consultation with parents of participating children.

Nasha Shkola will work with its schools to ensure that the required school-level parent involvement plan meets the Title I requirements, and includes, as a component, a school-parent compact.

Nasha Shkola will incorporate this school-wide parent involvement plan into its school plan.

In carrying out the Title I parent involvement requirements, to the extent practicable, Nasha Shkola will provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with children with limited English proficiency, parents with children with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports in an

understandable and uniform format and, including alternative formats upon request, and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand.

If the Nasha Shkola plan for Title I is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school will submit any parent comments with the plan when it submits the plan to Minnesota Department of Education.

5. Nasha Shkola will provide the following necessary coordination, technical assistance and other support to assist Title I schools in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance.

6. Nasha Shkola will build the school’s and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school involved, parents and the community to improve student academic achievement, through the activities specifically described below.

Parents will be informed of community events and opportunities (free admittance to museums, library programs and hours, special events) that will enhance their children’s learning. Consistent reminders to families that spending time together and sharing new experiences not only can be viewed as a healthy form of entertainment but also a key opportunity for communication between parents and children.

A. Nasha Shkola will provide assistance to parents of children served by the school or school, as appropriate, in understanding topics such as the following.

NS parents will be informed of the preceding through literature obtained from the Department of

Education publishing offices (Ed pubs) as well as links to information on-line. Topics will be

chosen for focused discussion at monthly PIC meetings and / or Scholar Showcases. Briefs of

topics will be presented in the monthly calendar of events as well as through classroom

newsletters. Teachers will also be encouraged to talk with parents via phone to inform them of

relevant information as the opportunity arises and especially when a parent requests

information. One request from a parent will spur communication with as many parents as

possible in a classroom group on a particular subject. Teachers are encouraged to share

experiences, especially successes with their peers in order to promote clear, consistent, and

timely communication with all NS families.

The evaluation will include identifying barriers to greater participation by parents in parental involvement activities (with particular attention to parents who are economically disadvantaged, are disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited literacy, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background). The school will use the findings of the evaluation about its parental involvement plan and activities to design strategies for more effective parental involvement, and to revise, if necessary (and with the involvement of parents) its parental involvement plan.

A final evaluative survey will be developed and conducted with follow-up phone calls by bilingual staff. Two focus groups co-facilitated by a parent and a staff member will be held. I. NS will convene an annual meeting, during the last month of school, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation under this part and to explain the requirements of this part, and the right of the parents to be involved. The meeting will be held followed by a celebration of the year’s accomplishments (graduation) to ensure maximum parent participation. Parents will be notified 90 days in advance of the meeting and reminded of their rights to take time off work in order to attend.

Part IV. Discretionary School Parental Involvement Plan Components

The Nasha Shkola Parent Involvement Plan may include additional paragraphs listing and describing other discretionary activities that the school, in consultation with its parents, chooses to undertake to build parents’ capacity for involvement in the school and school system to support their children’s academic achievement, such as the following activities: (Please check those discretionary activities that the parents and school choose to participate in during this fiscal year.)

Involve parents in the development of training for teachers, Directors and other educators to improve the effectiveness of that training.

Provide necessary literacy training for parents from Title I, Part A funds, if the school has exhausted all other reasonably available sources of funding for that training.

including transportation and child care costs, to enable parents to participate in school-related

meetings and training sessions.

Train parents to enhance the involvement of other parents.

In order to maximize parental involvement and participation in their children’s education, arrange school meetings at a variety of times, or conduct in-home conferences between teachers or other educators, who work directly with

X One of the roles that the Title I teacher plays is to help close the information gap as it arises

between NS staff and parents. The Title I teacher will provide resources and training for parents

so they feel confident in requesting information, resources, and support.

In carrying out the parental involvement requirements of this part Nasha Shkola, to the extent practicable, shall provide full opportunities for the participation of parents of children with limited English proficiency, parents of children with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language such parents can understand.

Part VI. Adoption

The Nasha Shkola Parent Involvement Plan has been developed jointly with, and agreed on

with, parents of children participating in Title I programs, as evidenced by meeting minutes and

sign-in sheets.

On September 1, of this fiscal year the Nasha Shkola Parent Involvement Plan will be in effect for the period of FY’19 The Nasha Shkola will distribute this plan to all parents on or before the first Parent – Teacher conference in the Fall of 2018.
