Quantum dots
Have you ever wondered how your TV works?
There are small particles applied in LCD and LED
screens. Those small particles are called QUANTUM DOTS.
What are quantum dots?
Quantum dots are incredibly small particles. They range between 2 to 10 nanometers in diameter. It's this small size that gives quantum dots the unique properties to improve our tech.
The color light that a quantum dot emits is directly related to its
size; smaller dots appear blue, larger ones more red.
They can be applied in
transistors, solar cells, LEDs, and diode lasers.
QD- promising technology to enhance Led Usage
One of the most promising new color enhancement technologies for backlit LCDs is QDs, a nanocrystal material that can be tuned to emit an optimized narrow spectrum of light.
LCD manufacturers are able to create vivid displays that
can exceed 55% of the spectrum a human eye can detect.
What are the benefits of quantum dots?
• Better colour accuracy• Higher colour saturation• Improved battery life
Amazon used quantum dots to good effect in the Kindle Fire HDX 7. The colors are excellent
Quantum Dots Can Charge Your Smartphone In 30 Seconds
A new device by an Israeli startup called StoreDot could revolutionize battery charges by bringing a phone from dead to full in about 30 seconds. The secret to StoreDot’s technology is quantum dots.
The “dots” are actually peptides that have been altered to have certain properties, like optical or the ability to generate charge when strained.
QD have such remarkable properties that scientists think they will soon be used in everything from light bulbs to the design of ultra-efficient solar cells.
Quantum dots. Sound cool, don't they? But for once this is a technology that's actually as good as it sounds.
