THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
We’re excited about this weekend and seeing how God is going to work in our lives. We hope this is a weekend full of laughter with friends, full of moments focusing on and growing in God, and full of frivolity. Below you will find the ten commandments (i.e. guidelines) that will help all of us experience the fullness of the weekend. 1. Expect God to do something.
2. Be in prayer for yourself and the rest of us.
3. Use words and actions to lift up others.
4. Get to know somebody you don’t know.
5. Get creative.
6. No one walks alone (or with just one other)
7. Respect other’s stuff and pick up your stuff.
8. Respect the retreat staff and center.
9. Know your schedule and be on time.
10.No ladies in guys rooms, no guys in ladies rooms. If there is any need, the adult staff holds the right, while not desiring it, to send a teen home if his/her behavior is detrimental to themselves or other teens.
BOTTOM LINE... We want to create COMMUNITY, where everyone feels safe and respected: So, HAVE A GOOD ATTITUDE (Phil. 2:5) – Your attitude should glorify God! Show SUPPORTIVE BEHAVIOR (Eph. 4:29) – In a community of respect for each other, our actions build one another up, not tear them down. Have POSITIVE CONVERSATION (Phil 2:14, I Peter 3:10) – To be healthy in how we communicate, we can ask ourselves, “Is what I am about to say true, necessary, AND kind?”

KEEP ON GROWING
So, you want to keep growing in your walk with Jesus after this weekend? That’s awesome! We’ve included some basic advice on the following pages. Growth doesn’t happen on accident. Growth is something that God does in us when we say “Yes” to Him and “No” to sin. Five basic things to keep you growing:
1. Grow with Others
2. Read your Bible
3. Pray
4. Journal
5. Serve
Advice on Growing with Others 1. Don’t try to do this alone. You can’t. You will fail. 2. Choose a friend who will push you to love God more, to be who God made you to be. Find a way to connect with them once a week to pray for each other. 3. Keep attending youth group and church.
ADVICE ON READING THE BIBLE
Reading the Bible regularly is crucial to the life of anybody who wants to be strong and be free in Christ. Don’t know where to start? Read Mark (the second Gospel in the New Testament). Here’s some advice for reading: 1. Observe. Ask questions about what’s happening in the story. Find
out who the major players are.
2. Apply. Now, ask how this might fit into your life.
3. Pray. After you consider how to apply, ask God to help you apply it
in your life.
Check out this ultimate list of Bible Reading Plans: http://fervr.net/bible/the-ultimate-list-of-bible-reading-plans It’s good to read. It’s also good to hide God’s word in your heart and mind. Here’s some advice for memorizing: 1. Start Small. Choose something easy to memorize.
2. Say it out loud. Speak it!
3. Put it everywhere! Write it on notecard, carry it with you, post it
on your mirror, car dash, book bag, etc.
4. Timer. Choose specific times to review your verse.
5. Repeat, repeat, repeat. That’s how you’ll get it down!
JOURNALING ADVICE
Keeping a journal can be an awesome way to grow in your faith with Christ and to mature as a person. Some of the most influential people in the world have kept personal journals! But it’s not always easy to know where to start, so here is some basic advice. 1. Pray to start—Invite God to speak to you
2. Write the date—it helps when looking back!
3. Be Honest—Faking it in a journal? It’s easy to do, so make sure
you’re being honest with yourself and with God.
4. Don’t worry about grammar—You’re not getting graded!
5. Don’t give up—You are going to miss some days. Don’t try to “go
back” and write all that’s happened. You can’t! Just pick up on
today!
Possible Stuff to Journal You could do one or two or all of these!
1. Prayers
2. Thoughts from Scripture
3. A thankful list!
4. Favorite song lyrics
5. Favorite quotes about God and life
6. Reflections on your day
Asking, “Where did I see God at work?” or “Where did I
struggle?” or “Who can I pray for?”
7. Go outside and draw what you see
8. Come up with your own!
ADVICE ON PRAYING
A quick glance at Jesus’ life and we see that He took prayer pretty seriously in His own life. He got up and went by Himself to pray. He’s our inspiration, so let’s be like Him. Paul once wrote, “Pray All The Time!” Here’s some advice on how to do that. 1. Find a specific place in your house to pray. Make that your
sacred space.
2. Eliminate distractions. Turn your phone on airplane mode, etc.
3. Use a prayer journal. (see previous page)
4. Listen. Set a timer for 3 minutes and sit and listen for God to
speak to you.
5. Pray the headlines. Go to a news website and pray for the
situations on the front page.
6. Contact List: Pray for peeps on your contact list on Facebook or
your phone .
7. Give Thanks! Just start listing (on paper, or out loud, or on a list
on your phone) all the stuff you want to thank God for!
8. Ask Questions. Kinda like #7, except you ask God questions that
bother you about life.
9. Pray for Leaders. Write down a list of teachers, government
people, church leaders. Pray for them by name.

SMALL GROUPS AT RETREAT We think retreat is better when you have a chance to spend time with people in small groups! This year at camp, we have two different kinds of groups: D-Groups – These are our “Discipleship” groups, and they are the ones were
you’ll get to download and discuss the spiritual parts of the retreat with peers and adult leaders.
“Superhero” Groups - These groups are formed for some healthy competi-tion. We’ll have four groups that will compete against each other, earning points for different things.
You may or may not be rooming with those in your “D” group, and “Superhero” groups and “D” groups are different from each other too.
Below are our D-Groups for the weekend. Each person has a letter beside their name (A-D), which tells you what “Superhero” group you’re in!
