Traffic & Parking Board Appointment

Dear Mayor Euille and Members of the Council,

I'm Greg Cota from

Parkfairfax -- a current member of the city's Traffic & Parking Board

who is up for reappointment at the April 27 council meeting. I hope that

you could please support me for reappointment to the board.

l have

learned a great deal about the traffic and parking challenges we face in

Alexandria during my first term on the board. I also have learned about

the structures of city government and how the different departments and

boards interact. In fact, I'm currently enrolled in the Citizen's Academy

to get a better understanding of how Alexandria operates.

My exposure Comments:

to regional transportation issues has pushed me to get more involved in my

community as well. Last summer I joined the Parkfairfax's task force to

fight the HOT lanes proposal on 1-395. As a result of this work, I

recently was appointed chair of association's newly formed Transportation

and Land Use Committee, which will track upcoming development projects near

our community.

I still have much to learn, and I would greatly

appreciate your support next week for continued service on the board.

Subject: Support for the Reappointment of Amy Slack to Traffic and Parking Board

On behalf of the Del Ray Citizens Association ("DRCA") Executive Board, please accept this letter as our recommendation that Ms. Amy Slack be reappointed to the Traffic and Parking Board. We respectfully submit that Ms. Slack has served the Traffic and Parking Board well and would continue to do so if reappointed.

As Co-Chair of the DRCA Land Use Committee, Ms. Slack possesses a solid understanding of the parking and traffic issues that face our city. Ms. Slack regularly works with residents and businesses to address and resolve traffic and parking issues that are a part of land use items reviewed by her committee. We hold that her experience with land use and Planning and Zoning brings an important perspective to the deliberations of the Traffic and Parking Board.

Ms. Slack has also immersed herself i n b issues related to the City's taxicab industry. She has invested the time to learn the details of the permitting, recordkeeping, inspection, and enforcement processes. Her understanding of the challenges that bureaucracy presents to city staff, the cab drivers, and the cab company owners, has made her & invaluable and effective member of the Taxicab Working Group.

Finally, the DRCA Executive Board stronglysupports Ms.-Slack's reappointment to the Traffic and Parking Board because she is conscientious and does her research on the issues before her. She has a proven track record of bringing businesses and ~bsidents and city staff together to address issues and reach compromise i na way that benefits the city as a whole.
