Welcome to the Fall 2014 schedule of Vedanta classes Classes will resume on the 18th of September Thanks to continued local and online student interest we will continue the regular weekday weekend and monthly classes There are two highlight of the Fall schedule The first one is the Thanksgiving Weekend Retreat which will be held in Eugene from Nov 27-30 You will find the flier for the retreat on the last page The second highlight is the continuation of the study of the Kaṭhopaniṣad and the Bhagavad Gītā with the help of Ādi Śaṅkararsquos commentary called ldquobhāṣyardquo The bhāṣya is a unique tool that connects one with the entire lineage assists in the in-depth assimilation of the teachings and bestows a clarity free of doubt vagueness or error

Regular bhāṣya study is rarely valued in contemporary times that too in the western world Most people tend to think of it as as a pedantic exercise removed from the gamut of onersquos life-experiences Thanks to the blessings of Pujya Swami Dayanandajirsquos unique and effortless style of imparting the bhāṣya in English that immediately connects to the seekerrsquos daily life I am inspired to continue teaching bhāṣya which brings to life the abiding paradox of Vedanta --using words to impart the wordless truth of the self We will be continuing with two classes of bhāṣya per week for the Kaṭhopaniṣad and the Bhagavad Gītā that were started in the three month course prior to the summer break I encourage people to give the bhāṣya study a try and I pray that jijntildeāsus everywhere benefit from it fully

The Fall schedule is presented in a monthly calendar format color coded topic-wise for the seekersrsquo convenience Clickable links for accessing the classes online appear at the bottom of this page and also first page in the calendar Days of the month during which the regular classes will not take place appear in the blank squares at the beginning of the said month Please be aware that any changes to the schedule will be communicated with messages posted in both online classrooms To access the classes online kindly click on either of the links We are blessed with two classrooms therefore if one does not work for whatever reason you can try the other

Manmanā Bhava Resolving Alienation through SurrenderIn this retreat we will be studying selected verses of the Bhagavad Gītā that discuss the universal problem of alienation and disconnectedness Freedom from alienation is a topic that is especially pertinent for people living in the contemporary world The Bhagavad Gītā and the Upaniṣads highlight alienation of the individual from the total as a timeless and universal problem whose source is ajntildeānam self ignorance In expounding the nature of the self as the truth of everything as limitlessly and non-dually whole the verses selected for study will dismiss even the possibility of alienation Further we will also explore easy and practical ways through which one can remain aligned with ones purpose and also assimilate the truth of the self

The teaching being priceless there is no cost for the teachings There will be an a opportunity for people to show their appreciation for the teaching through the traditional gurudakṣiṇa offerings given to the teacher
