CTA’s Work on Climate Change

Page 8: Nairobi Gender CSA Olu Ajayi- 02 November olu ajayi

Climate (variability & change) is critical to agriculture in ACP region because smallholder farms are rainfed  Agric activities tied to weather recurrent swings ▶▶of food insecurity  Distribution of impact- poor farmers (smallholder & female) with lowest capacity to adapt, but have highest need for food security are disproportionally impacted

Mid-season drought and weather extreme are the “new normal”?

Page 9: Nairobi Gender CSA Olu Ajayi- 02 November olu ajayi

From problems to solutions....... Much information about challenges...but less on solutions to the challenges

Any bloom in the gloom?- specific solutions that work and benefit smallholder especially female farmers?

Sample questions:‒ Which are the specific solutions, their adoption & impact? ‒ How to upscale proven CSA solutions?

Cross cutting or deliberate planning for gender?

Call for Proposals1. Solutions that respond to the challenges of cc; any hidden rare gems? e.g. Farmers’ adaptation; climatic risk financing mechanisms

2. Understand their impacts- where, extent, drivers?

3. Potentials for scaling up among smallscale farmers
