1. THE UNIVERSITY

The Nagaland University is a Central University established by an act of parliament in 1989. It came into being on 6th September, 1994. The objective of theUniversity is to disseminate knowledge by

providing infrastructural and research facilities in such branches of learning as in Humanities, Natural & Physical Science, Social Science, Agricultural science, Engineering & Technology and Management. The University has departments located in its campuses in Lumami, Kohima, Medziphema and Dimapur.

2. THE SCHOOL

The School of Engineering & Technology was inaugurated on 29th October by the Governor of Nagaland (Chief Guest) and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland (Guest of Honor). It is the first

School of Engineering in the State of Nagaland with state-of-the-art infrastructure. It is located at D.C. Court Junction, Dimapur. The School is housed in a single four storied building with a carpet area of 35500 sq.ft. The Residential Complex is situated at P.W.D. Colony, Dimapur which is a walking distance from the Academic Complex.

The School offers following undergraduate (B.Tech.) programs at present• Agricultural Engineering & Technology• Biotechnology• Computer Science & Engineering• Electronics & Communication Engineering• Information Technology

The Campus is well connected by train, air service as well as road transportation. The Campus is networked with all the other campuses of Nagaland University. The University has a Residential Complex which houses the Staffs and the Students. There are boys and girls hostels. The Complex has facilities such as Sports & Recreational Facilities and Health Care Facilities including Gym. One Block is furnished as a Guest House. The Students are provided with regular Bus Service.

3. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The school offers 4 years (8 semesters) academic programmes approved by AICTE/University leading to B.Tech. degrees on successful Completion of the course. The school adopts a teaching pattern

of course credit system in semesters. One academic year is divided into two semesters comprising approximately 20 -weeks per semester. Major emphasis is laid on practical & industrial training.

3.1. SELECTION CRITERIASelection for admission under various quotas is done as mentioned below:1. ALL INDIA QUOTA THROUGH JEE (MAIN):The candidates will be considered for admission on the basis of their scores in JEE (main) examinations of all India Competition. The reservation of seats will be as per the University Policy adopted and mentioned in the Regulation of School of Technology.2. UNIVERSITY QUOTA: The university quota shall be taken care as per University Ordinance.3. STATE QUOTA: Selection for admission under State quota is done by respective State Governments. On receipt of the list of nominated Candidates from respective Government, admission formalities are completed by the School as per eligibility criteria.

4. INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES

4.1 STUDENTS AMENTIES AND ACTIVITIES4.1.1 HOSTELThe School provides limited Hostel facilities for the students. There are three boys and three girl’s hostels accommodating them on a twin-sharing basis. All hostellers have to abide by the rules and regulations of the hostel.

4.1.2 SCHOOL MAGAZINEThe school publishes school magazine annually to encourage creativity of the students.

4.1.3 CAREER COUNSELLING AND PLACEMENT CELLThe career counselling and placement cell guide the students regarding their future academic and employment career.

4.1.4 GAMES AND SPORTSFacilities like Table Tennis, Carom, Cricket, Chess games and Gym are available to the students residing in the Hostel.

4.1.5 CULTURAL AND LITERARY PROGRAMMEThe student organizes cultural and literary programme from time to time in the campus.

4.1.6 AUDITORIUMThe school has a spacious auditorium where various cultural activities, lectures of specialists and renowned person in their fields etc. are organized in addition to academic seminars and symposia.

4.1.7 INTERNET FACILITYThe Academic Complex is connected to the internet with 100 mbps broadband connection from NKN.

4.1.8 LIBRARYThe Library has collection of latest Textbooks, Journals on different streams of Science, Engineering and Technology. The Library has a spacious study room where the students can interact with each other. In addition to this, the University has e-library (INFLIBNET programme already accessible) which provides access to numerous books, National and International Journals on-line. The Library has arranged book fairs of different National and International publishers.

5. THE PLACEMENT CELL

The Placement Cell of the School of Engineering & Technology was established in 2010 to arrange industrial trainings, research projects and to facilitate the recruitment of students into various reputed

organizations.Some of the Placement Cell activities are:

• Conducting Mock tests, group discussions and interviews.• Approaching various prospective employers.• Giving Pre-Placement Training to students.• Arranging On-Campus and Off-Campus interviews.• Arranging Industry interaction.• Arranging Personality Development Programmes.

6. DEPARTMENT PROFILES

6.1 DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Agricultural Engineering & Technology focuses and deals with the use of engineering tools and practices to solve the real world problem of crop production, handling

and processing problems for food and fibre industry. “Everything else can wait but not Agriculture” with this famous motto, the department envisages to solve the problem with the application of scientific knowledge in diverse and multi-disciplinary activities for overall development of farming community and better livelihood.

The Agricultural Engineering Department of the school came in to existence in 2007. The department follows four years degree course as adopted by the school.

Agricultural Engineering comprises of programme, in the field of Soil and Water conservation Engineering, Irrigation & Drainage Engineering, Farm Machinery Engineering, Farm Power Engineering, Dairy and Food Engineering, Post-Harvest Engineering, structures and Environmental engineering, Electrical Electronics and information systems and NonConventional Energy Sources besides some interdisciplinary courses.

The department aims to provide scientific knowledge to increase agricultural production and productivity through better management of land and water resources, appropriate use of more efficient agricultural machinery, better techniques of post-harvest technology and improved methods of processing and preservation of foods.

In addition to instruction in physical concept, courses include laboratory and practical session that develop student’s critical thinking approach in mathematical aspect on designing and analysis, and problem-solving skills. The Department has four laboratory viz. Land and Water Management Lab, Farm Power and Machinery Lab, Food Processing and Engineering Lab and Agricultural Engineering Computing Lab.

The Department has a vision to develop the art of research in laboratory and practical’s to develop the real time problem solving skill. Students are given an opportunity to expose to industrial training for 30 days during pre-final year. Students are also given opportunity to do research through final year project work. The student projects offered are normally related to real problems of the region as well as industry and also of other emerging areas. This helps student to develop their self-confidence to handle technical matters.

6.2 DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

The Department of Biotechnology was established in 2007. The department offers undergraduate (B.Tech) degree and the Department conduct research in diverse areas of

basic and applied biology. Biotechnology is ranked second as the growing sector with a tremendous employment potential and research scope. The Department aims to tap the huge biodiversity offered by the region and plans to conduct research; with the aim to explore the potential of the region. Ongoing research projects are spread in broadly three major domains that include (a) molecular, cellular and developmental biology, (b) Biopharmaceuticals, drug delivery and Phytochemical studies (c) Bioengineering. The department has attracted funding from Department of Biotechnology, GOI. Several students of the department have qualified national level competitive examinations.

The computer science & Engineering emphasizes on the all-round development of the student, both in the theoretical and practical knowledge. The Department has a

comprehensive curriculum on topics related to all aspects of Computer Hardware and Software with an emphasis on practical learning. Department has a well-equipped computer laboratory with internet facilities to conduct practical session for the students. The department also takes special care in developing problem solving attitude in students and prepare them to be mentally equipped to join any organization.

6.4 DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering focuses to impart education and training at the Undergraduate levels with special emphasis on design aspects of

electronic systems. The training imparted to the students would be such that it will make them competent enough to be the fountainhead of new ideas and innovations in Science and Technology and who shall contribute its growth in partnership with industries and develop and harness it for the welfare of the Nagas and the nation. The infrastructure and lab facilities are upgraded from time to time and provide adequate opportunities for students to learn and innovate. The department programmes to cater to the ever challenging needs of technical excellence in all areas of Electronics & Communication Engineering such as Integrated electronics and circuits, Tele-communication, Computer technology, Power electronics, GPS systems, Communication Systems, antennas, satellite transponders, signal processing based biomedical instruments, VLSI chips and many more.

VISION: The department aims to become a nationally acclaimed department of higher learning that will serve as a source of knowledge and expertise for the society and be a preferred destination for undergraduate and graduate studies, to advance and spread knowledge in the areas of electronics, communication, instrumentation, signal processing and very large scale integration.

The Department of Information Technology was established on 29th October 2007. It offers fours year B. Tech degree in Information Technology. The IT Department has a

wellequipped computer laboratory with internet facilities to conduct practical session for the students. The Department provides internet connection to the students through NKN (National Knowledge Network). The IT department is maintaining the intranet and has also developed the Online Examination System Software for the School of Engineering and Technology.

The Techaura and the Annual Sports are the two main annual events organized by the students of the School of Engineering and Technology, Nagaland University.

Techaura is an annual technical festival organised by the final year students. A platform for students to showcase their talent in technical and other co-curricular competitions; from Gaming, concerts to cultural events held during 1-4 November 2016 at D.C. Court Junction SET campus. Some events during this festival includes programming, web designing, animation, innovative presentations based on research/experience, mud modeling, bio-design, bio-quest, circuit design, robo-kinetics, gaming, science exhibition, math modeling, etc.
