MOA is committed to promoting awareness and understanding of culturally diverse ways of knowing the world through challenging and innovative programs and partnerships with Indigenous, local and global communities. The artifacts preserved within carry significant importance to our Canadian culture and past.
INTRODUCTION
The UBC Museum of Anthropology can not afford poor air quality as it looks topreserve precious artifacts and cultural history, hence, all HVAC systems behind the artifacts are carefully monitored under the direction of UBC Plant Operations maintenance, controls and management to ensure temperature, humidity, particulate and molecular contaminant are closely regulated to protect these artifacts for generations to come.
UNCOMPROMISED INDOOR AIR QUALITY
MOA uses a combination of Filtration Group MERV 8 pleated pre-filters, 2” HEGA activatedcarbon pleats and MERV 14 FP secondary filters within all primary air handling units. A 2nd
stage of MERV 8 pleated prefilters in front of the MERV 14 FP final filters was removed for energy cost savings as seen in the photo to the right.
MERV 14 filters are installed with closed cell neoprene gasket for a positive seal.
FILTRATION
Up until 2019, MOA air handling units operated with 2” 3M MERV 13 MiniPleats. In 2019/2020 AHU’s were changed to higher performing, longer lasting 12” deep Filtration Group MERV 14 FP MiniPleats for energy cost saving measures. Systems at MOA continue to operate with Filtration Group 2” MERV 8 pleated prefilters and HEGA carbon pleats and maintain positive seal with the use of closed cell neoprene gasket on both the final filters and access doors.
Service work is completed by UBC Plant Operations NCT I accredited personnel.
