people of Cuba are able to
create a vibrant culture in
the ruins of once-
magnificent surroundings.
He shows how the people
of the Luberon, a region of
Provence, have preserved
the ambiance of their
colorful, historic villages. He demonstrates how the town of
Oaxaca, in Mexico, has been kept vibrant while retaining its ancient
charm. He also explores the colorful decay of Fort Point, in San
Francisco.
The Lindsay Dirkx Brown Art Gallery is located inside

Pet Peeve!!! I know it’s been mentioned before, but I’m mentioning it again!
Titling your images … Check your spelling … especially if it is the name of something or somewhere or a
person or an indigenous group, etc … look up the correct spelling or, if you are at an exhibit, take a quick photo of the sign in front of the exhibit and refer to it for the correct spelling!
If it’s a Journalism or Travel photo, be complete with your title! Who, what, where, when, why. Who is in the photo? If you are at a sporting event, you should be able to find out the name of the person you just photographed. Where are you? Name the town or area … not just Germany, Munich, Germany. What are they doing and Why are they doing it?
Etc, etc, etc … Are you getting what I am saying?

Presiding: President Jane Postiglione called the meeting to order at 7:40
Roll Call: Some representatives sent substitutes: Rossmoor, Tim Christoffersen and Peninsula, Barbara Masek. Berkeley, Livermore, and Contra Costa were
represented by other members of the board. Absent were Joe Hearst, Amory Donaldson, and Sam Berzin.
Secretary’s Report: Helen thanked Joan for taking the Oct 8 minutes, which were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Teri reports no change from last month.
President’s Report: Jane Postiglione announced next year’s board: President, Jim Cutler Vice President, Helen Sweet Secretary, Jane Postiglione Treasurer, Teri Schoech Judges Chair, Joe Hearst PI Chair, Gene Albright Print Chair, Dean McCoy is leaving his position after the annual and will help orient his replacement.
Vice President’s Report: Jim Cutler John Goyerʼs application for FN4C has been approved. For the annual meeting: Prints must be received by the Jan 14 board meeting, judging will be Jan 19 in Rossmoor, and the banquet will be Feb 10 at the Lafayette Park Hotel.
Judges’ Chair: Joe Hearst was not present.
Print Chair: Dean is keeping the Oct and Nov N4C winners for the annual competition.
Projected Images: Gene is seeking a location for the Nov 17 judging other than Marin because the judge is from the peninsula.
Foto Fanfare: Amory Donaldson was absent.
PSA: Joe Hearst was still absent.
FotoClave Trustee: Joan Field SJVCCʼs FotoClave chaired by Tom Fraser and Jim Cunningham in Modesto, Nov 2-4, at least broke even financially with about 120 attending. (N4Cʼs 2011 FotoClave drew about 300.) 6C has responded to Joan that they don’t want to dissolve nor relinquish their 3 remaining clubs to us. They might get 2 more clubs. They were to host the 2013 FotoClave. Joan suggested that 6C and N4C could host one together. 6C vice president, Duane Pepper, has said they will decide at their Feb meeting whether to host one next year. Joan opined that after the Feb meeting, it might be decided to hold FotoClaves semi-annually.
Webmaster Sam Berzin was absent. Teri Schoech has agreed to be our new webmaster.
Old Business:
We need new interclub judges. Last year’s training did not result in many new judges.

It was suggested that we have another in April or May and that it be more interactive than lecture, perhaps with training in the morning then practice with videotaping and mentors in the afternoon. Steve Trout is a good trainer. It was suggested that new judges might begin at the N4C level with a mentor present, which would eliminate the stress of verbalizing their critiques to an audience. This would require a change in the council’s rules. Wayne Miller has a list of judging prospects from his professionals club. Helen will ask that he send copies to Jane, Joan and herself.
New Business:
Joan submitted two new logos that Barbara Fredericks created for the council. We selected the one with a tag line that would appear darker in grey-scale. Weʼll ask Barb to eliminate some of the vertical cables, which merge when the logo is reduced in size.
With no other new business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:50.
