Kiss and RideKiss and Ride

Please note: Supervision before school begins at 8:45AM. Families are reminded not to drop students off before this time. They cannot be in the school unsupervised. We appreciate your understanding.

Arrivals and Departures / Kiss and Ride

The Kiss and Ride program is intended for parents/guardians who are dropping off or picking up their child(ren). It is not intended for individuals who want to leave their vehicle to walk their child(ren) to the playground or to assist their child(ren) in leaving the car. If you want to accompany your child to the fence of the playground, you must park your vehicle on the street (or in another designated space) and walk your child to the school yard. Please click on the link to Markham city parking for more information. http://www.markham.ca/

There will be NO PARKING in the parking lot for parents. In an effort to make drop-off and pick-up as orderly and safe as possible we ask that drivers respect the following rules: 1. Obey the road rules, crosswalks, signs and speed limits. 2. Move your vehicle up as far along the curb side of the loop as possible. 3. Have your child(ren) enter and exit the vehicle from the curb side of the loop (exit from the RIGHT side of the vehicle ONLY). 4. The Kiss and Ride area is one way only 5. Your child(ren) should have their backpacks nearby to enable them to exit the vehicle quickly. 6. Never leave your car parked, idling or unattended.

Parking

Please make note of the NO PARKING, NO STOPPING and NO U-TURN signs along Bur Oak and Alfred Paterson Drive. Please carefully check which streets you can park safely and then walk your child to school.

Parking Lot There is no parent parking permitted in the parking lot during arrival and departure times during the day. There is exception for people who have an accessibility sign in their window to use our parking. Vehicles will be towed or ticketed.

A few ways we can reduce the congestion: ● Walk, if possible. ● Give your child time to get to the schoolyard on time.

Students who use bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards or scooters to travel to school:

● Must wear a helmet. ● Must walk while on school property. ● Should lock bicycles on the bike rack. ● Must store rollerblades, skateboards or scooters in their locker or backpack

Student voice is important to us. From November 12 to 30, 2018, the York Region District School Board will invite all students to participate in the Every Student Counts Survey (ESCS). The purpose of this census survey is to better understand YRDSB’s diverse student population as well as students’ experiences in school and outside of school. The survey results will be used to help improve our schools and to:

● Identify and eliminate systemic barriers to student success; ● Create more equitable and inclusive school environments; and, ● Improve student achievement and well-being.

All students will be given the opportunity to participate. Accessibility options will be available for any student who needs assistance completing the survey.

● For students in Kindergarten to Grade 6, the survey will be sent home to be completed with a parent/guardian.

● Students in Grades 7-12 will be invited to complete the census at their school.

 Weather Watch

All students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 are expected to go out for every recess unless the principal or vice-principal decides that weather conditions are so poor that it would be detrimental for them to be outdoors. Students are to come to school ready for winter and prepared to be outdoors up to 40 minutes after lunch. We always monitor the weather and, in extreme conditions e.g. wind chill; we keep the students indoors or shorten the recess breaks. We often receive requests from parents asking us to keep their children indoors during recess times because they are not feeling well. Unfortunately, we do not have the staff or facilities to supervise students who are sick or still recovering from an illness. Students with heavy colds, etc., which are serious enough to prevent them from participating in physical education, recesses or other outdoor activities, should remain at home until their condition improves. This will likely benefit the students concerned and prevent the spread of this illness to others. Please make sure that your children are dressed properly for our invigorating winter days. It is advisable for students to bring extra pants and socks. A change is often necessary due to the wet and cold weather of the winter months. To avoid adding to our clothing collection in the Lost and Found, please be sure to label all articles of clothing. Boots, hats, mitts/gloves, scarves, and snow pants for the younger children will help make recess an enjoyable time.

Dear Families, Our Second Annual Winterfest will be held on Thursday, December 20th, 2018 at 6:00PM. Get ready to be dazzled by performances from our Primary Division, the Junior-Intermediate Choir, and the Intermediate Band as we get into the holiday spirit!

This year, to support our choir members who will be traveling to Ottawa in May to represent Greensborough at MusicFest Canada, we will be having a silent auction where all proceeds go to their trip. Tables will be set up in the front foyer and bidding will begin at 3:30PM, up to the beginning of the concert at which time bidding closes once the gym doors have closed. Winners of the bids will be announced at the end of the concert. Please bring cheques or cash payment to collect the items. Here are just some of the items that might interest you:

● A Gretsch Historic Series guitar (value $500) ● Kate Spade wallet (value $150) ● Kate Spade purse (value $170) ● Golf package to Beacon Hall (value $400) ● 3-month subscription to Kiwi Crate (value $60)

And much more! In the giving spirit, please bring a non-perishable food item as admission to the concert. These will be donated to our local food bank to help those in need. Best Wishes, Ms. Cheung & Mrs. Bayley & Mrs. Maybury
