EASTER DAYC O L L E C T R C I

O GOD, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the deathof the cross, and by his glorious resurrection delivered us from the power ofour enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live withhim in the joy of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

FIRST READING:PETER BEGAN to speak to them:"I truly understand that Godshows no partiality, but in everynation anyone who fears him anddoes what is right is acceptable tohim. You know the message he sentto the people of Israel, preachingpeace by Jesus Christ—he is Lordof all. That message spreadthroughout Judea, beginning inGalilee after the baptism that Johnannounced: how God anointedJesus of Nazareth with the HolySpirit and with power; how hewent about doing good andhealing all who were oppressed bythe devil, for God was with him.

AT THAT TIME, says the Lord, Iwill be the God of all the families ofIsrael, and they shall be my people. Thus says the Lord: The peoplewho survived the sword foundgrace in the wilderness; when Israelsought for rest, the Lord appearedto him from far away. I have lovedyou with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Again I will build you,

Acts 10:34-43We are witnesses to all that he didboth in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanginghim on a tree; but God raised himon the third day and allowed himto appear, not to all the people butto us who were chosen by God aswitnesses, and who ate and drankwith him after he rose from thedead. He commanded us to preachto the people and to testify that heis the one ordained by God asjudge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about himthat everyone who believes in himreceives forgiveness of sinsthrough his name."

or Jeremiah 31:1-6and you shall be built, O virginIsrael! Again you shall take yourtambourines, and go forth in thedance of the merrymakers. Againyou shall plant vineyards on themountains of Samaria; the plantersshall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit. For there shall be a day whensentinels will call in the hill countryof Ephraim: "Come, let us go up toZion, to the Lord our God."

RefrainOn this day the Lord has acted; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 118:11 Give thanks to the Lord, for heis good; * his mercy endures forever.

15 There is a sound of exultationand victory * in the tents ofthe righteous:

19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; * I will enter them; Iwill offer thanks to the Lord.

GOSPEL:EARLY ON THE FIRST day ofthe week, while it was still dark,Mary Magdalene came to the tomband saw that the stone had beenremoved from the tomb. So she ranand went to Simon Peter and theother disciple, the one whom Jesusloved, and said to them, "They havetaken the Lord out of the tomb, andwe do not know where they havelaid him." Then Peter and the otherdisciple set out and went toward thetomb. The two were runningtogether, but the other discipleoutran Peter and reached the tombfirst. He bent down to look in andsaw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then SimonPeter came, following him, andwent into the tomb. He saw thelinen wrappings lying there, and thecloth that had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen wrappingsbut rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, whoreached the tomb first, also went in,and he saw and believed; for as yetthey did not understand the scrip-

John 20:1-18ture, that he must rise from thedead. Then the disciples returned totheir homes. But Mary stoodweeping outside the tomb. As shewept, she bent over to look into thetomb; and she saw two angels inwhite, sitting where the body ofJesus had been lying, one at the headand the other at the feet. They saidto her, "Woman, why are youweeping?" She said to them, "Theyhave taken away my Lord, and I donot know where they have laidhim." When she had said this, sheturned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know thatit was Jesus. Jesus said to her,"Woman, why arc you weeping?Whom are you looking for?"Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, "Sir, if you havecarried him away, tell me where youhave laid him, and I will take himaway." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" Sheturned and said to him in Hebrew,"Rabbouni!" (which meansTeacher). Jesus said to her, "Do nothold on to me, because I have not

yet ascended to the Father. But go tomy brothers and say to them, 'I amascending to my Father and yourFather, to my God and your God.'"

Mary Magdalene went andannounced to the disciples, "I haveseen the Lord"; and she told themthat he had said these things to her.

AFTER THE SABBATH, as thefirst day of the week was dawning,Mary Magdalene and the otherMary went to see the tomb. Andsuddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came androlled back the stone and sat on it.His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. Forfear of him the guards shook andbecame like dead men. But theangel said to the women, "Do notbe afraid; I know that you arelooking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been

or Matthew 28:1-10raised, as he said. Come, see theplace where he lay. Then go quicklyand tell his disciples, 'He has beenraised from the dead, and indeedhe is going ahead of you to Galilee;there you will see him.' This is mymessage for you." So they left thetomb quickly with fear and greatjoy, and ran to tell his disciples.Suddenly Jesus met them and said,"Greetings!" And they came tohim, took hold of his feet, andworshiped him. Then Jesus said tothem, "Do not be afraid; go andtell my brothers to go to Galilee;there they will see me."

The Sermon The Rev. Liz Huskey Simmons, Interim Rector

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father.Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven:by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People

In the power of the resurrection, let us pray to the Lord, saying: Christ is risen! Alleluia.

For the whole bright earth, so lovingly created yet so compassionately redeemed, that itmay speak again of the glory and majesty of God, let us pray to the Lord.

For all nations and peoples of the earth, to whom God shows no partiality, that all maybe transformed by mercy to live together in hope, let us pray to the Lord.

For the holy church, whose life is hid with Christ in God, that in all its diversity witnessmay be made to one Lord, one faith, one baptism, let us pray to the Lord.

For all in high places of authority, for whom Christ was put to death and was raised, thatthey may be led to govern with equity and justice, bringing life to those in the shadow ofdeath, let us pray to the Lord.

for all who have been baptized and given the garments of light, that they, with thewhole church, may be witnesses to the gospel in daily life, let us pray to the Lord.

For all captives, prisoners, and those condemned to die, with whom the Holy One sharessuffering and abandonment, that they may find strength, freedom, and forgiveness, letus pray to the Lord.

For all who suffer in mind, body, or soul, for whom Christ is risen with healing in hisglorious wings, that they may be comforted, let us pray to the Lord.

For all who have died and for all who grieve, that in Christ who triumphs over death

they may find light perpetual and blessed assurance, let us pray to the Lord.

For all gathered in this assembly, that we, like Mary and Peter and John, may see thetomb empty, and joyfully believing walk in newness of life, let us pray to the Lord.

Rejoicing in the risen presence of our Lord, we commend all for whom we pray andourselves to Christ, to whom we give laud and praise now and forever.
