The bark contains reservoirs of oleo-gum resin. The oleo-gum resin can be collected when it seeps out from natural cracks or deliberate cuts in the bark. The yellowish liquid hardens to form reddish-brown masses. 1-3 Myrrh is one of the oldest known remedies, used for incense and embalming since ancient times. 1,4 Before the first century BC, Myrrh was used to prevent the fermentation of wine to vinegar. The Romans used Myrrh for many more applications than the Greeks.
