National winners rom outside o the National Capital Region (NCR) with their teacher/chaperone will be invited to the Awarding Ceremony in Manila with

one (1) night ree accommodation provided by the MyRizal Committee. The organizers have the right to own and publish the winning entries. The decision o

the Board o Judges rom the MyRizal Committee is fnal and irrevocable.

High School1. The Essay Writing contest in English is open to all 3rd and

4th year high school Filipino students enrolled in any public and

private secondary school nationwide during SY 20112012. The

school should be duly recognized by the Department of

Education.

2. The entries must be written in English, with a minimum of 1,200

words and a maximum of 1,500 words, typewritten, double-

spaced on 8 x 11 bond paper, 12pts. font size, font type Arial,

Times New Roman or Book Antigua.

3. The contestant should express his/her ideas and feelings towards

a character in either Noli Me Tangere or El Filibusterismo,

relevant to todays Philippine society and political reality.

4. The essay should show a deeper study of Rizals characters that

leads to a better understanding of his ideas in his novels and a

critical understanding of contemporary Philippine society.

The following are guidelines on how to write the essay:

First part - description of the character;

Second part the student will detail how he/she can pattern ordistance his/her life from that of his/her chosen character;

and

Summary the student should summarize his/her ideas

on the principles represented by the character

and how the student will translate these principles

in concrete action in his/her life.

College(in English and Filipino)1. The contest is open to Filipino college students (undergraduate)

inthePhilippines.Ithastwocategories:essayinFilipinoand

essay in English.

2. Essays should be original, unpublished (in print or online),

and consists of 5,000 words.

Pilipino Theme: Ang Diwa ni Rizal sa Kasalukuyan

3. Participants are limited to join in one category and the submission

of one entry to the category of choice.

6. Entries must be submitted together with the endorsement

letter of any of the following: teacher, adviser, department chair,

college dean or university president. The letter must recommend

theentryandconrmtheauthorasacurrentlyenrolledstudent

in the college/university.

7. The last day of submission is on October 31, 2011, 5pm. Mailed

entries must be postmarked not later than October 31, 2011.

8. The author is responsible for ensuring that the submitted work

is original, she/he is the sole author of said work, and it does not

infringeontherightsofotherauthorsidentities.UP-CALwill

name the members of the board of judges.

9. The entries will be ranked based on the content, originality,

style, composition, and organization.

10. Winners will be announced in time for the performance of the

operaNolimeTangereattheU.P.onNovember2011.

11.Thecopyrighttotheentriesremainswiththeauthors.However,

UP-CAL and MyRizal have the right to their fair use l ike

publication and teaching resource. No additional compensation

will be awarded to the authors.

The winner of each school shall compete for the division level

eliminationrounds.Therstplaceatdivisionlevelshallproceedto

the regional level competition. The top three (3) regional winners

shallbesubmittedtotheDepEdSpecialEventsUnitbyOct.31,2011

astheregionsentriesfortheNationalCompetition.Alltop3regional
