‘I am not the most technically gifted but after a few teething problems I have found it great’……….. ‘I speak to people getting so stressed about their standard “folder”. This cuts out the problem and collates everything for you. The people that have persevered with the app are doing far less moaning and are experiencing a lot less issues than the people who aren’t using it.’
ResearchKey Drivers
- Did it Improve communication? - Could we monitor trainees progress more effectively?- Did it engage trainees further with
their own learning and progress?- Did it enhance trainee experience?- How did it support quality assurance?
Trainee engagement with Myprogress or paper based evidence collection - What type of evidence was collected?
- How did it inform their practice?- How did they use it and when?- What are the benefits and
barriers?- Mentor involvement- Academic Tutor involvement
Lessons learned
• Directly replicating paper based documentation
• Managing trainee and academic expectations
• Choice
• Assuming trainee knowledge of Teacher Standards
• Organisational structure within Myprogress
• Using the web based dashboard and the app
• Don’t run before you can walk!
Looking forward
• Respond to lessons learned
• Embed and establish
• Increase stakeholder involvement
• Integrate observational assessments
• Mentor training opportunities
• Explore further the use of video to support reflective practice and progress
• CPD – Teacher Training – not Initial Teacher Training
• Forever positive – not everyone feels the same. Inform scepticism and ignore fear.
