Pro\•incc o r Northwestern China in 2003 and 2001. So rar, onl)• one Urocystis species is known on CtdtmwgrMtis, Ur01.:ystis calamagro.~fidis (J.avrov) Zundel. The new species dilfers from U. ctdamagrostidis in having large spore balls (22-51.5 x I i-39 ~n) and more ustilospon:s (mos tly 2· usti losporcd) per spore baii i(0-) 1-6(-8), 0= 1%, 1= 14%, 2=3 1%, 3=29%, 4= 11 %, 5=6%, 6=4%, 7=2%, 8=2%; n= IOO], while U. mlmm~grostidis has small spore balls (20- 16 ~rn in diameter, Vllnky 1991) and 1- 5 ustilospores [mostly J. ustilospored (Zundel 1953) I per spore ball. ·rhe new spedcs is des.:ribed :1..;:

A spec imen of smut fungus label-..d as Do(iSHmShi i11tametlia Sl.'tch. I= Dom~ausiopsis i11termedia (Setch.) V:i nky] on Sagiltt~rit~ sp. was found in our Herbarium (HNIJ\ S). It was collected in Guangdong Province, Sout hern China. ' I his smut fo rms flat spots on the leaves, with out swel lings, posse~"ing spore balls with a single layer of ustilospores and unclear cortex of sterile cel ls. ' I he spore balls of 1Joa$Samiop$i!' i11termedia have several (2- 5) layers of ust ilospore1' (V;ink)' 199'1 ). So, this specimen was C\•idently miside nti fied as D. intermedia. The host plant, SflgittMia belongs to Alimwtaceae. So far D. furva (Davis) V<lnk)• is th-.. only Doassa11siopsis species known on Sagittaria that docs not produce swellings of the host plants (V:inky 198 1). Tile Doassausiopsis spcci'-s from Guangdong is similar to D. f urva in having fl at sori, but dHfers mainly in el lipsoidal, often tangenti ally elongated ustilospores, and undear cortex of sterile cells, while IJ. Jun'a has ellipsoidal, rradkally elongated usti lospores and polyhedral .:ortkal cell s, 6- 17 ~lm in diam eter (Fis.:hcr 1953). ' I he ocw species isdcs.:ribcdas:

Spore ba ll:; embedded in the ho:;t ti:;:;ue, irregular, ellipsoidal or subglobose, 169- 260(- 314) x 108- 181 ~tm, composed of :l central m:ls.s of parcn..:hymatous funga l cells surrounded by a layer of ust ilosporcs and an outer corti..:a l layer of sterile cells. Ustilospores ovoid, ellipsoidal, subglobo~e or irregular, arranged irregularly, oft en with ellipsoidal usti lospo res transve rscl)' arranged, 9- 12.5 x 5-10 j.l.m. brown, smoo th; w;~ ll 1-2 j.l.lll thick. Centro.~\ parcndl)'matous cells ovoid, ellipsoidal , subglobosc or irregular, o ften angular, i- 14 x 5.5-10 .,_m, )'eilowish-brown. Outer cortical sterile cells ca. 5 x 3 ~m.
