Have you ever envisioned what

it is like to experience a “Taste

of Heaven” here on Earth?

Have you ever seen an image

that reflects the true essence of

variety, which is the spice of

life? Can you visualize being

among a large group of people

from various cultures who have

come together in one place for a

common purpose?

Here at Beulah Heights

University (BHU), we are

afforded the unique opportunity

to experience just that during

our annual International Day

Celebration. This year’s event

was held on Tuesday, March 17,

2009, and featured many people

who came together to share

expressions of their rich

heritage. It’s exciting to know

that because you decided to

make BHU your home for global

leadership and educational

development, that it affords you

with the opportunity to

experience a “Taste of Heaven”

here on Earth!

If you have never had the

Office of Development

Did you know…

• Student tuition only covers a

percentage of the true

instructional cost at BHU?

• Individual donors and

foundational support make up

the rest of the gifts for BHU?

• Gifts can be made in the

honor and in the name of a

family member or friend?

• Giving to BHU, a 501©(3)

institution is tax deductible?

• You can have our state of the

art Student Housing named in

your family or organization’s

name? Ask how by contacting

Sarah Matthews at

[email protected].

The Office of Development would

like to take time to thank all those

who support, and all who would

like to be future supporters of

BHU. Please prayerfully consider

making a gift to BHU this year

and read about what your gifts

have done in future newsletters.

what he received. He was

honored for what he gave.”

opportunity to attend this very

special event, you may be

wondering, what exactly is

International Day? It’s an

annual day of celebration where

the students, staff, and faculty of

BHU, along with guests from the

community, join together to

engage one another and share

cultural experiences and recipes

from their native land. It’s a time

when people from various

backgrounds come together for

one common cause – to

experience a “Taste of Heaven”

here on Earth!

During this year’s celebration,

students shared their native

dances, costumes, music, and a

colorful parade of flags from

many nations. The highlights

included a band from Mexico, a

guitarist from the Israeli

Embassy, and student

presentations from Malawi,

Kenya, and Zambia. Students

and faculty from this year’s

featured country, South Korea,

shared a presentation which

showcased their native dance in

traditional costumes. The day’s

lunch included a variety of foods

from many nations. It proved to

be a day filled with fun, food,

and fellowship that included

expressions of creativity from

many different cultures!

If you missed this year’s

International Day Celebration,

it’s not too late. We do it every

year, and as a matter of fact, our

daily campus experience is

made up of students, faculty and

staff from over 41 nations and

45 denominations. Spread the

word and invite others to

experience a “Taste of Heaven”

with us here at BHU.

Powerful words spoken by

powerful people remain powerful

for short periods of time. Strong

words from Dr. Martin Luther

King, Mahatma Gandhi, Winston

Churchill, Mother Teresa, Bill

Gates and now US President

Barak Obama can become

clichés at best. There is a shelf

life for their collective hearers.

However, it doesn’t need to be for

individual hearers—you and I.

Individuals who actually go

beyond hearing to listening can

take those words to heart and

work toward their application in all

facets of their lives such as family,

church, business, jobs,

community and most importantly

personally.

Individuals can take those words

and become a movement. A

movement of empowerment for

one’s self as well as for the

betterment of others.

Yes. What word can you say that gives

more positive energy than “Yes”?

Yes signifies optimism, hope and

possibility. Yes to these areas

also says no to pessimism,

hopelessness and impossibilities.

These are all essential to

effectively lead and inspire others.

WE. Inspirers can change the word me

into WE. They know that by

themselves, they can do little but

together WE can accomplish

amazing results. This inspires

people to believe in themselves

but more importantly in others.

Believing in someone is the

greatest gift one human being can

give to another. WE is all about

that. Used in that fashion we

become an enterprise.

Can. CAN is the fuel that turns

optimism and hope into action

and results. CAN shows people

what is possible when WE come

together with a positive vision and

together WE take action.

It is up to us—you and I—to

assure that these powerful words

put together by eight alphabets

and two spaces become more

than words.

WE, the anchor word will allow

US to do great things for HIM.

Never underestimate the power of

WE. YES we can!

Director for Institutional Development

Alumni Spotlight >> Jerry F. Hutchins In 1987, A BHU Alumni, Bishop Jerry F. Hutchins, was

called to Pastor the Timothy Baptist Church in Athens,

Georgia, where he presently serves. In

January 2007, he started a Bible Institute in

Stone Mountain, Georgia, to provide mid-

week Bible classes for the members of

Timothy Baptist who lived in the metropolitan

Atlanta area. That Bible Institute led to the

organization of a second church, Kingdom

Now, which Bishop Hutchins launched in

November 2008. He is passionate about

Biblical knowledge and understanding and

has earned several degrees, including a

Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Studies, a

Master of Art in Ministry, and a Master of

Divinity. He also serves as a Visiting Instructor here at

Beulah Heights University. Bishop Hutchins is a covenant

partner with Full Gospel Baptist Church

Fellowship and was appointed international

Bishop of Policy and Procedure by Bishop

Paul S. Morton in 2006.

Bishop Hutchins is founder and CEO of Jerry

F. Hutchins Ministries, Inc. as well as

Skanvelope with his wife Sheila. Their

innovative company developed technology to

scan and process contribution envelopes for

churches. This revolutionary technology is

designed to save countless staff hours and is

being used by several high-profile churches

across the United States.

“Yes we can. It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation. Yes we can. It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail toward freedom through the darkest of nights. Yes we can. It was the call of workers who organized; women who reached for the ballot; a President who chose the moon as our new frontier; and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the Promised Land. Yes we can to justice and equality. Yes we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes we can heal this nation. Yes we can repair this world. Yes we can” President Barak Obama
