Dear Friends,

Just as Christmas lasts for 12 days, Easter spans 40 days. And in the Sundays after Easter, the gospel readings tell about the many times when Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection.

Of all the scripture readings we hear throughout the year, the Easter gos-pel readings are my favorite. Why? Because they point to our future. A Christian’s future (after this life) is not a timeless disembodied journey. No. The Christian believes that Jesus will one day renew the earth, and us along with it. We’ll get our bodies back (not exactly what we have now, but what Paul mysteriously calls a “spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15.44). What will those bodies be like? The best we can say is: Look at Jesus’ body after his resurrection—and that’s what you’ll have.

Our Greek Orthodox friends have a greeting during the 40 days of Eas-ter—and it is the same greeting the first Christians used. It just happens to be the same greeting we use at the beginning of our Sunday ser-vices during Easter. Christos Anesti! Alithos anesti. “Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” Thank God for resur-rection.

Jesus did some remarkable things after the resurrection—his body did not seem captive to the laws of physics—he was able to eat and drink, talk and laugh—and he was recognizable… yet different. Right now, we only get hints of what the resurrection will mean, but the hints are extraordinary. And you will have real, ongoing relationships that nev-er end, all without conflict.

There is no other religion that holds out the hope of resurrection. Other religions hope for rebirth, for dis-embodied existence, for the soul’s reabsorption into “the divine”—but only Christianity says that you will be you, you will not be absorbed into God or suffer endless rebirth—you will enjoy this creation as it was meant to be enjoyed, and you will go from “one degree of glory to an-other” (2 Cor. 3.18). It will get better and better.

Fruit Drive to Benefit Beach House --

Sundays in May

May has been called Mental Health Month since 1949! The

Galilee Advocates for Mental Health Committee requests donations of fresh fruit every Sunday beginning in May. We will deliver the fruit to Beach House on Mondays. The fruit can be left on a table near the Gift Shop. Bags and boxes of fruit are ap-preciated...apples, oranges, bananas, peaches, etc. Please note that ber-ries will be too small and messy. If you would like to participate, please contact Susan Wynne at 620-1085 or Tommie Cubine at 761-6964.

Beach House provides a non-resi-dential rehabilitation program to its members living with mental illness. Beach House is located past Lynn-haven Mall off Lynnhaven Parkway at 3143 Magic Hollow Boulevard.

Circles

Alice Rueger Circle will meet on April 5th at 10:30am at the

home of Bonnie Wheeler, 71 Gil-bert Circle, 23454. We will meet at the church at 9:50 to carpool.

Bishop Tucker Circle will meet on April 12 at 6:00pm for a

potluck dinner followed by our monthly meeting. The meeting will be held at the home of Pat Va-kos, 310 49th Street, 409-0960....A Clubhouse Community

Music Feeds Us Quartet

Music Feeds Us will present a ben-efit concert to benefit the Food-

bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore on Thursday, May 12, 7:30 p.m., here at Galilee Church. Mu-sic Feeds Us is a classical concert series and education program that supports the Charlottesville-Staunton commu-nities. In 2016 the Quartet will be cel-ebrating its fifth year.

Last year Fitz Gary, Co-founder and Violist, performed at a private concert in Virginia Beach, sponsored by Sandra Baylor, for the benefit of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the East-ern Shore. Because of the enthusiastic response from the local audience, he decided to bring his Music Feeds Us String Quartet to the Beach in 2016 for

another benefit concert for the local Foodbank. The concert program will feature works by Hayden, Schumann, and Hanza El Din.

When Gary co-founded Music Feeds Us in 2012, he envisioned combining ser-vice, culture, and education to inspire audiences, through music, to develop a personal commitment to support the community. Over the past four years, Music Feeds Us benefit concerts have raised the equivalent of over 82,000 meals for foodbanks in Virginia. This year the Quartet’s goal is to add enough donations to raise the cumulative total to 100,000 meals.

Although there is no charge for the concert, free-will monetary donations or non--perishable food donations are requested to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the East-ern Shore. A one-dollar donation pro-vides several nourishing meals for your neighbors in need.

PETALS

As a couple was leaving the 9:15 A.M. service recently, they stopped long enough to thank some of the people who made them feel so much at home during their two months stay at the beach. They were from New York, visiting family and since she was recovering from a stroke, they decided to stay in an ocean-front condo with their children. They were glad to discover Gal-ilee and loved every service they attended each Sunday during their stay! They will be missed as well.

Jeanne Preston-Rae said it was very special when the Rev. Kate Bobbitt came to visit Eugene in Intensive Care. He was being taken off life support, the fam-ily was there and Kate took out her SmartPhone (which is pro-grammed with the complete Book of Common Prayer) and proceeded to conduct a full ser-vice of Evening Prayer. With the family participating, sing-ing hymns together and reading prayers, even the medical staff was impressed with the beauty of the moment.

• CHILDREN’S CHAPEL During the Sunday morning services, K-3rd graders are invited to leave the service for their own lesson. They return to church for Communion.

Programs: Youth Group: This is our big group event! We start with a fun game like king of the hill dodgeball. Then we transi-tion into a time of teaching, discussion, and prayer. When? Every Sunday Night: Middle School: 4:30 to 6 p.m. High School: 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Sunday Morning Café Between our 9:15 and 11:15 service we have a bible study in the Cove. Currently for high school we are going through the major biblical events. Middle school is following up on the sermon for the week.

Galilee has been a long sup-porter of the Boys Home in Covington, Virginia. During the summer the boys don't have much to do that is fun. I want-ed to use the gifts of our stu-dents as athletes to put on a really fun summer sports camp. I believe it is an awesome way to put the gospel into action and preach it too! What Happened here in March?

The end of February we took the high school students on a ski trip to Wintergreen. It was an awesome time of fun, but we also had some incredible conversations about the importance of having Christian fellowship and friends. I believe God sparked the hearts of several students on that trip. We also had an awesome middle school hangout night with close to 30 kids showing up. We played some super fun games and had some fun running around. We are excited to continue building relationships with core students in our big group gathering.
