(Vedic planning for the prosperity and comfort of citizens).

History of JaipurThis city was built by the ruler of Amber, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II on 18 November, 1727. The architect of Jaipurwas Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, an architect from Bengal. However, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh himself also contributed tothe planning of Jaipur. Jaipur was a walled city, but presently it has expanded much beyond that.

The town is an example of Hindu architecture. It is built in the form of 'pithapada', an eight part mandala. MaharajaSawai Jai Singh II was a patron of astronomy which is quite visible in the city planning. He has used the number 9 or itsmultiples quite significantly. 9 was symbolic of the 9 planets.

Apart from this, there are 9 rectangular city sectors on either side of the main bazaar or market. In olden times, therewas a palace complex where the main palace Hawa Mahal was constructed. This is known to be home of the queensand the King, Maharaja Sawai Jai Sing II. Numerous gardens were built in the centre of the city.

People & Culture of JaipurJaipur attracts numerous visitors from all over the world due to its historic heritage and rich culture. Besides forts and‘havelis’, the city is also known for its festivals and fairs.

The Jaipur Vintage Car Rally, held every year in January, has become an attraction of late. Vintage car lovers can see acollection of cars like Fiat, Mercedes Benz, Austin, etc. some of which date back to the early 1900s.

Teej is a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati of Sanatan Dharma. The festival is basically aboutprayers offered by women for long and happy married lives. During the festival of Holi, elephants are painted beautifullyin different floral patterns and a game of elephant polo is hosted here. Other than this, there are the Chaksu Fair andGangaur Festival which are among the major attractions.

The Elephant Festival of Jaipur is an annual event which is held on the eve of Holi. The day-long festival celebrates themajesty of the royal animal through cultural events and elephant processions. The Gangaur Festival is anotherattraction. ‘Gan’ refers to Lord Shiva and ‘gaur’ refers to his wife, Parvati and the celebrations are symbolic of maritalbliss.

The Banganga Fair, an annual event, is held on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Vaisakh. To be held on 6thMay 2012, the fair is held in the historical township of Bairath in the Radha-Krishnaji Temple near a stream 11 km away.Bairath is about 85 km from Jaipur and there are regular bus services from Jaipur to Maid, which is a few kilometersaway from Bairath.

There are many local shopping markets in the city that offer a wide range of carpets, metalwork, textile, pottery, jewellery, gem and antiques. The famous MI Road is an ideal place to purchase artefacts, apparel, handicraft andbranded readymade garments. Bagru and Sanganeri textile block prints can also be purchased from the shops locatedon MI Road.

Travelling to JaipurJaipur is well connected by road, rail and air to major destinations in India. Jaipur International Airport or SanganerAirport is located at around 13 km from the main city. The airport is served by flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad,Bengaluru, Chandigarh and various other cities. Taxis can be availed from this airport to travel to the city centre, whichusually cost about INR200.

Direct express trains and passenger trains are also operational between Jaipur Junction Railway Station and other citiesto reach Jaipur. These trains are available on daily basis and cost as per the travel class and distance. Taxis, autorickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available from the station which is about a kilometre away from the city centre.

Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) buses operating in the state connect with some of the majorlocations in the country. Direct RSRTC buses are also available from Delhi to reach the Sindhi Camp Bus Stand in thecity.

Travelling within JaipurJaipur is served by AC and non-AC buses operated by Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) that are ideal forsightseeing. Taxis are easily available outside the railway station, Sindhi Camp Bus Stand and the airport and typicallyrun on metres.

The city also has prepaid auto rickshaws operating within, which are available for short trips and can also be booked forthe entire day. Cycle rickshaws are available for travelling shorter distances within the city.

Travel Tips for JaipurThough taxis run on metres, it is always good to ensure that the metre is on or to negotiate the fare before travel. In thecase of tour guides, it is better to opt for government authorised ones for authenticity and safety.

Summers in Jaipur are extremely hot and if visiting during this time, tourists should carry light cotton clothing, sunscreen, hats and umbrellas to protect themselves from the heat. Drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated isnecessary. In winter, the days are pleasant but the night time temperatures go below zero, so adequate protection isnecessary.

While shopping in the bazaars around Hawa Mahal and other places, bargaining is necessary. If there is time, it is alsogood to explore around a bit before picking up goods.

Accommodation options in JaipurHotel options in Jaipur include budget, medium, luxury and deluxe hotels. Tourists visiting Jaipur can also opt forother accommodation options, ranging from heritage hotels, hostels to 5 star hotels.

Majority of the hotels in Jaipur are spread across the main city and near the Jaipur Junction Railway Station. Featured review about JaipurThe Royal Place to visit"Mainly jaipur is known as the 'Pink City', but let me tell you that only a part of the city is known as pink city becausethere the whole place is made of red sandstone ie the shops out there, the Hawa Mahal etc everything and the mostinteresting thing about this pink city part is they look all same. I mean everything has the same architectural designsexcept the Hawa Mahal which stands out on its own. You can take a look at the Hawa Mahal from outside but you arenot allowed inside and please beware of purchasing anything from pink city market as there are many jewellery shops(place known as Johri Bazaar) who loot the people by fake things.

Next, the attraction of Jaipur is The City Palace which is a marvel. You can feel the royal exposure out there! Jaipur hasvery famous three forts namely: Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort. I personally liked the Amer Fort only becausethe Amer Fort has something to visit. Jaigarh Fort has one main attraction i. E the huge cannon and the story behind it.Nahargarh Fort is the worst place i've visited in Jaipur, the filthiest place and it has nothing to show. Next Attraction outthere is The Birla Mandir. Its very good. All white masterpiece and yes please ask your driver while in the way to BirlaMandir to show the Electronics Building and just have a look at the building in both daytime and nighttime and believeme. You're not going to believe your eyes!!

The other sightseeing places include the Jantar Mantar, The Jal Mahal and while you visit the Jal Mahal there's a streetmarket out there which sells some cool stuff. Have a look at it. Also ask your driver for the Rajasthan Emporium outthere because it shows you some truly traditional masterpieces of INDIA. Let me depict some of them. These includethe Jaipuri print which is made from pure natural substances and how they are printed on cloth( its a must watch), theJaipuri Razai (blanket/carpet) you can use it either ways... How cool is that.

Just have a look at the emporium it holds the traditional masterpieces. Last but not the least one must and obviouslyvisit "chokhi Dhani" if you want to see what the Rajasthan tradition looks like and I bet you'll fall in love with this place. Itsthe best experience I've had in my journey.

Fooding: Average fooding but nothing to worry about the quality. Its just the taste to worry about which very few placeskeep lip smacking." - Subham Mukherjee, Durgapur, Feb 27, 2015

The Pink City"My friends and me are just back from a trip to Jaipur. Its a great place for couples going for a romantic holiday or if youlove the old Indian charm. If you are a die hard romantic, have a charm for architecture and love colors and want thetaste of great Indian culture, Jaipur is the place. We stayed for 1 nights and 2 days in Jaipur but if you really want toexplore more, 1 more day should be enough. Ideally 2 nights and 3 days are enough to cover Jaipur entirely.

We visited the 1. Birla Temple2. Albert Hall museum3. Jantar Mantar4. Amer Fort

on the first day and

5. City Palace6. Jalmahal7. Havamahal8 . Local Pink city markets on the next.

Page 4/13

Page 5: My Trip to Plan Too Jaipur

Although we would have loved to visit the Chokhi Daani and Najafgarh Fort, we were pressed for time. Depending uponyour personal preference you can drop few places here and there, but the City Palace Museum and Amer Fort are amust visit. Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal are on the way and you can visit them on your way to City Palace and Amer Fortrespectively. Try to visit these two places around evening since the lighting makes them look strikingly beautiful.however, beware of frauds: Please be careful against cheaters as you will come across a lot of them here. Do not trustthe local shopkeepers since they charge almost twice, thrice, sometimes even 5 times more than the actual price. Beinformed and always be alert. You can shop at the local pink city markets for dress materials, sarees, articrafts, sweetsand traditional wears.

We stayed at a budget hotel and traveled locally since we were a big group. If you are travelling alone, or along withyour family, I would recommend you to book your travel arrangement in advance. Overall I would say its a must visitplace and our overall experience was a good one.

Happy Travelling!" - Aarti Pandit, Mumbai, Apr 27, 2014

Complete Dhamaka!"It is the capital of Rajasthan and one of the most well planned city of Asia. It is also called as Pink city because of mostof the houses are colored pink. The best time to visit this Pink City is winters and monsoon. It could be a good weekendgetaway for Delhi people, atleast for those who love cultural and traditional places and shopping. Very beautiful city withbeautiful hearted peoples. No traffic, no crowds, no jams, only broader roads waiting for vehicles to pass. There arevariety of hotels in immediate vicinity of Railway Station and Bus terminal which are 500 meter apart to each other. FromRailway station one can book open roof double decker bus for local sightseeing of Jaipur at nominal price. One shouldcarry umbrella and sun screen to avoid sun burn even in peak winters. Two days are enough for this city. One day forlocal sightseeing and second day for shopping and Chokhi Dhani visit. I advise you to book a cab/ taxi for chokhi dhanias it is about 20 Km from the main city. Chokhi dhani is a must visit place for tourists who come to Jaipur. It is the bundleof cultural and traditional, food, activities, dance etc. In short you can see the whole Rajasthan at one place, which isChokhi Dhani.

Following are the places of interest in Jaipur:

Jantar-Manter (Must Visit)Hawa MahalJaigarh Fort (Must Visit)Nahargarh FortRam Niwas Bagh (Also known as Albert Hall/ Central Museum)Rambagh PalaceCity palace (Must Visit)Amer Fort (Must Visit)Jal Mahal (Must Visit)Kanak Vrindavan

Advise: You can book the tickets of Luxury/Deluxe buses for Jaipur online . Also you can prefer Double decker trainfrom Delhi, every evening 4 o clock around." - Vivek Sharma, Jaipur, Sep 27, 2013

Best tourist friendliness"Its a very well pro actively planned destination with lot of in city and near by destination. very tourist friendly. somebudget travellers might feel the city expensive. value derived is at its best. taxis, autos, host people everything shouldbe given 5 on 5 as they are very cooperative in managing your schedules. cheating is very negligible in the city. nomuch of night life but toilet facilities, drinking water, guides everything is available.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Raj mandir, Albert museum, zoo, birla temple, forts. Raavat sweet mart, street sidegolgappas, Kulfis and golas are not to be missed at all.

Activities & things to do: Eat, roam, shop(please bargain well) you get good sandals. evenings r good.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: by air and train all major cities are accessible. taxis are available via delhiif u include delhi on the list. check weather before going. reach before late night." - Ravi R, Bangalore, Apr 17, 2012

Rasjasthan ka dil"During these Diwali holidays our three days stay in Jaipur in Hotel Peppermint was a unforgetable one.The simplicity, the beauty and the awe of the city of Jaipur has been unbeatably retained through out the hisitoric times till date .Thelittle time that we had seems too less to properly unfold the majesty of the city.If given a chance would again love to goto Jaipur and explore the areas which I missed during this trip.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Jaipur is still the nearest and biggest attractions for tourists coming from abroad aswell as people like us staying in the Delhi National capital region. While in Jaipur we had a wonderful chance to indulgeinto different cusines which include the typical vegetarian dishes like Dal-Baati-choorma, pyaz kachauri ,Jalebi etc andnot to miss the special Lassi on M.I road. The non-vegtarian foods including Laal maas(red colured mutton Curry) andbutter chicken at hotel Peppermint were sumptuos .The different chaats offered at Kanha restraunt were delicious.Majortourist places of Jaipur includeThe Amber fort,Jal mahal,Maharani bazaar.Queens palace , Rajmandir cinema hall,Jaigarh fort, Birla mandir etc just a few places that we could covered.

Activities & things to do: Well Jaipur is a shoppers paradise. With the exclusive collection of bandej(tie & die) suits andsarees to its typical kundan meenakari jewellery ,to the marvelleous joottis, morjaries at Kallu Chacha shop, and theexclusive jewellery at the Johari bazaar. The list just goes on and on and one never gets tired buying the Jaipur stuff ,thebed sheets , the cotton umbrella for kids on the road to city palace are one of its kinds.I purchased suits, chappals, jewellery for my self and my family I also managed to get some small momentos near Jal mahal for friends andcolleagues.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: While going to Jaipur one must Visit Chowkidhani the typical rajasthanifood restraunt.Since while coming back from Jaipur it not a good idea because they serve the food from 6pm onwards -10pm.Also the different foods & snacks in jaipur has more chillies in it than an average person can take so care must betaken while indulding into a lot of food.Jaipur can be reached by Train /car.Flight is not a good idea as its very near. Ipersonally loved the journey from Delhi -Jaipur and back to Delhi in a car with my family. The warning is one must carrythe correct route map of the hotel where you will stay ,we really had a hard time finding our hotel in jaipur & landed up atchandpol 4 times in the city. Must take a guide while sight seeing it saves a lot of time and one can cover up al ot ofplaces in as short span. That was Jaipur really 'Rajasthan ka dil'" - Mona Samuel, Faridabad, Dec 7, 2011
