My Science Fair Workbook “How do scientists do science?”

What do I have to do? You have to complete four assignments to do your science fair project: Need Ideas

http://www.education.com/science-fair/

1. Research Report Some of this will be done in class and some will be done at

home. This will include your title page, acknowledgements, table of

contents, abstract, research, problem, hypothesis, materials list, procedures, data, data analysis, conclusion, and bibliography.

2. Experiment This will be done at home. You will follow the procedures you wrote at school to do

your experiment and collect data and record your results.

3. Display Board This will be done at home. This is a visual display of your experiment. Charts and models will be part of this display.

4. Classroom Presentation This will be done in class, but you will have to practice it

at home. You will share everything you learned in your experiment

with your classmates. They will be able to ask you questions.

33

How will I be graded? You will be graded using the following rubric.

4. Hypothesis This is your prediction about what will happen during your experiment.

Examples:

If the mass of an object is increased, then the speed of an object will decrease, because the object will have more inertia.

If two brands of gum are chewed, then one of the brands’ flavors will last longer

than the other, because not all flavors last the same amount of time.

If a person does different exercises, then the pulse will increase differently, because different exercises make the heart pump faster.

16. Oral Presentation

In class, we will make note cards to help you remember what you want to say. You will be able to use these note cards if you need them during the

presentation. You will practice your presentation at home before you present to the class.

Remember to…

SMILE!

Look at Your Classmates o Make eye contact with your classmates

Speak so Your Classmates can Hear You o Volume o Confidence

Tell Your Topic o Explain what the topic of your project was.

Summarize Your Project o Explain:

What you thought would happen… What you did… What you learned…

Ask for Questions o Ask your classmates if they have any questions about your project. o Answer the questions as well as you can.

Thanks o Thank your classmates for listening to your presentation.
