CAREER OVERVIEW

I have 16-years of combined experience in higher education marketing, outreach, recruitment and student affairs. I have an optimistic and motivational personality with a proven track record of effectively leading a variety of teams with enthusiasm, encouragement and constructive feedback. I take great pride in my genuine ability to establish good professional working relationships and sustain them. In addition to being professional, flexible, and responsive, I am a detail-oriented person with a strong ability to be agile when troubleshooting, addressing, and leading a diverse range of support services for students and staff. By being in a variety of leadership roles during my career, I have always enjoyed the learning moments when faced with challenges, as well as celebrating the successes with all team members. I have had direct oversight as a director, associate dean and dean for a variety of student affairs’ service areas, strategic planning and initiatives, budget planning and procurement, as well as marketing and communications efforts and strategies, for the majority of my career.

UNIQUE BEHAVIORAL STRENGTHS

In order to capitalize on my unique behavioral strengths, I need to be aware that others may prefer to deal directly with conflict, to use policies only as guidelines, to allow for open-communication on a consistent basis, to be able to negotiate with me and to understand my rules and standards. In addition, I need to be aware of others needing to have priorities set for them and not focus on the big picture as often. I know I like to challenge the way things are done; so, this could be a potential rough spot with dominant personalities who like to do the same. I like to solve new problems quickly, and assertively, I am very active and have a direct approach to obtaining results. I meet new people in a gregarious and socially assertive manner. I am very talkative and interactive while being open and even with people.

I am very fascinated by ideas and concepts. I get very excited when I discover, beneath the complex surface of an elegantly simple concept, to explain why things are the way they are. An idea is a connection. I have the kind of mind that is always looking for connections, and so I am very intrigued when seemingly disparate phenomena can be linked by an obscure connection. An idea is a new perspective on familiar challenges. You revel in taking the world we all know and turning it around so we can view it from a strange, but strangely enlightening angle. I love all ideas because they are profound, because they are novel, because they are clarifying, because they are contrary, because they are bizarre. For all these reasons, I derive a jolt of energy whenever a new idea occurs to me. I often get labeled as being very creative, original, conceptual and very sharp. I believe all ideas are thrilling love to share and compare. I am in constant need for achievement and it is what drives me. I very often feel as if every day starts at zero. By the end of the day, I have to have achieved something tangible in order to feel good about myself. And by “every day,” I mean every single day—workdays, weekends, vacations, etc. No matter how much I may feel I should take a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, I will feel dissatisfied. I have an internal fire burning inside of me. It is something that continuously pushes me to do more and to achieve more. When an accomplishment is reached, the fire dwindles for a moment, but very soon it rekindles itself, and forces me towards the next accomplishment. I have a relentless need for achievement and sometimes I have to remind myself that it is not always logical. But, it is always with me. Since I am an achiever, I must learn to live with this whisper of discontent. It does have its benefits because it brings me the energy and enthusiasm I need to work long hours without burning out. It is the jolt I always count on to get me started on new tasks and new challenges. It is the power supply that causes me to set the pace and define the levels of productivity with my work teams. It is the theme that keeps me moving!
