Magazine Proposal

Page 2: My magazine proposal final

Title & GenreThe title I chose for my magazine is ‘Unknown’. This is because it was the first and last word that I could actually

think to name my magazine and it seems different and gives a mysterious atmosphere. The genre I chose for my magazine is RnB because I am a huge fan of this genre of music and personally, I think it

is one of the genre our generation listens to. I also chose this genre because it is a combination of other music elements such as hip-hop, soul, pop and funk so it is likely a genre many people like.

Target AudienceMy target audience for my magazine would be male and female aged between 15 – 24. I chose this age group as they would have an interest in RnB music and will be able to buy the magazine. I chose the highest age group to be 24 because many elders dislike the type of music today’s generation listens to and wouldn’t want to read the

magazine.

PublisherThe publisher I chose is Prometheus Global Media. This is because they tend to publish business to business

magazine and I think that it would be different if they publish Unknown. Since Prometheus Global Media publish magazines such as Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter, I think they would be the perfect

candidate to publish Unknown as they publish well known magazines and are reliable.

House styleMy masthead for my magazine would contain colours of my colour scheme. I would have the lettering of my

masthead bold with the letters all on one line as I would like the title to be clear and recognizable. The text size for my masthead would be 66 px as it isn’t too big or too small.

The colour scheme that I’m going for is a pinkish-purple, grey and white as it’s the most suitable for my audience who are males and females.

The contents page would take up two pages and I would have the articles all categorized so it’s easy to get to what you want to read. The double page spread (DPS) would look like any other DPS in a music magazine as I like the lay out. I would possibly have my articles in a question and answer format on one side and a series of images of the artist on the other side of the DPS. My front cover will have a maximum of 10 cover lines as I wouldn’t want

the text obstructing the image of the cover star which readers tend to look at before buying a magazine.

For my font, I would possibly use a font that is nice and clear to read for my readers, no matter if you wear glasses or not. I may use Century Gothic, Arial, Berlin Sans FB or Eras Medium ITC.

ContentIn my magazine, the type of content that will be included in my magazine will be like any other music magazine,

with a little twist to it . The artists that would be include would be such as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Future, Kanye West, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and many more. I chose these artists as they represent the genre of music that I chose and today’s generation have heard a lot about these artists. I will also include new artist that we haven’t

heard about as today’s generation sure love to brag about knowing a new artist that not many people have heard of and can be used as a way to advertise the magazine Unknown.

I would also include adverts of albums/singles of the artists and of upcoming tours happening in the United Kingdom.

I may also include a poster or two of the cover star as a bonus, if you have brought the magazine.

As I mentioned earlier, Unknown has a little twist to it. As this is a music magazine. I thought I should give it a little twist to it and decided to include some advice for the growing generation to help them through life; as

parents would not be able to relate from what today’s generation is going through whereas Unknown’s editors would.Case studies

What I will be using from my case studies is the layout of the contents page from the billboard magazine I have analysed as I like how simple it is but is easy to read as the image is clear to see and the text doesn’t over power the image. I also liked the layout of the Double Page Spread (DPS) in the NME magazine because the article is on

the left hand side and on the right hand side is a series of images of the artist which represents the artist’s personality.
