symbolic heart of Venice; it has even been referred to as the drawing room of Europe.

*Discover Venice and

Gondola Ride

This is the only way to visit the unusual and fascinating corners of Venice, off the beaten track and where time seems to have stood still centuries ago. Relax with a quiet gondola ride on the Grand Canal (S. Maria della Salute area) and minor canals (Fenice area). After the gondola ride, you will visit outdoors with the Tourist Guide the area between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge, through a labyrinth of little canals and sites of historic and artistic interest, passing by some special places: Teatro la Fenice, ("The Phoenix"), one of the most famous opera house in Europe, the site of many famous operatic premieres; Scala del Bovolo, a unique spiral staircase with a plethora of arches; Rialto Bridge and its typical shops, one of the architecural icons of Venice. The tour ends with the landing at the station Vallaresso (Dogana).

*VENICE’S CARNEVALE

It’s a good idea to go to the Venice's Carnevale celebration is one of the most lively and colorful

carnival festivals in Italy, held 40 days before Easter. The Venetians don festive masks and costumes for a

10-day street party. The Redentore Regatta is an important festival in July held on the Grand Canal.

Venice's Carnival season starts about 2 weeks before the date of Carnevale. Events and entertainment are

held nightly throughout Venice. During carnival season people in costumes wander about the city.

FOOD SPECIALITIES OF

VENICE.Seafood is a big part of Venetian cuisine as are polenta and rice. Seppia, cuttlefish, is popular and risotto nero is a rice dish colored with its ink. Try zuppa di pesce fish soup here, too. Radicchio trevisano, red chicory, comes from nearby Treviso. Cicchetti, little appetizers, are found in the bars in Venice and are often eaten before lunch (similar to Spanish tapas. See Tips for Eating in VeniceVenice has often received a bad rap for food. Totally undeserved, you just have to eat as the Venetians do. Andare a cicheti - they can be found in enoteche (wine bars), osterie and trattorie however my favorite places to eat the small plates of delicious morsels are the bacari.

has moderate weather although there can be rain

nearly year-round. Summers are humid and winters can be foggy and wet. To avoid the large crowds, spring and fall are the best seasons to visit. Venice experiences flooding or aqua alta about 60 days a year, October through early January (more). For more
