"My Healthy Family" project kicked off across 4 European regions on 23rd September 2014

Rzeszów, the capital of the region of Podkarpackie in Poland openly welcomed the project „My Healthy Family”. The successful launch event was attended by MEP, Ms Elżbieta Łukacijewska, Vice Mayor Stanisław Sienko and Ms Ewa Piątkowska, member of the project's Scientific Committee. Dietary habits of Polish people, nutrition of teenagers, support to the local agriculture and health promotion were discussed at City Hall. Potential additional partners such as the superintendents of various schools in Podkarpackie have shown interest in supporting the project by ensuring the project’s promotion in their schools. Regional media (Radio Rzeszów, Radio Eska, Nowiny, TV Obiektyw, Radio VIA) carried out interviews. Check out the press review in the back. Refreshments prepared with fruit and vegetables were offered to the participants during the time made for discussion with the My Healthy Family team and the scientific experts. In front of the City Hall, a My Healthy Family stand welcomed the citizens of Rzeszów entertaining them with games and allowing them to taste fruit and gather information about healthy life styles. Children from the nearest kindergarten were entertained by the My Healthy Family animators.

At the same time at the city hall of Toruń, the capital of the region of Kujawsko-Pomorskie in Poland, also hosted the launch event of the “My Healthy Family” project attended by Vice Mayor Mr Ludwik Szuba. Representatives from the Marshal Office, Ms Anna Malinowska of the Scientific Committee joined more than 60 other guests representing e.g. Caritas, the Board of Education and the Health Department, who were pleased to promote health policy in their region and enthusiastically expressed their willingness to support this initiative. Shaping health policy in Torun, dietary habits of Polish people and if and how to change them (especially for teenagers, older people and pregnant women), local agriculture, and regional initiatives, were discussed. Regional media (Radio Pik, Gazeta Pomorska, Nowości) conducted interviews in order to inform the citizens of the region about the event and the initiative of the European Commission. The stand of My Healthy Family, which was located in the old town gathered attention of passers-by of all ages. Many people expressed their readiness to join the project and were surprised to discover fruit and vegetables are not only healthy but also funny and easy to prepare. A nutritionist offered advice on their eating habits.

Debrecen, the capital of the region of Észak-Alföld in Hungary kicked off their „My healthy family” project with the support of the Mayor of Debrecen, the presences of the Head of communication of the European Commission Representation in Hungary, “My Healthy Family” ambassador Alexandra Béres and Dr. Lajos Bíró of the project's Scientific Committee. Almost 100 people, from stakeholders, schoolmasters, social and child care institution leaders to representatives of non-profit organisations, nurses, etc. came to City Hall to launch the project. They too discussed dietary habits, this time of the Hungarian people, focusing on the project's target groups (children, pregnant women and older people). Health promotion and eating traditions in Hungary were also subjects of interest during the event. There was a lively exchange of ideas as to methods that can be used to reach the target groups effectively.

An opportunity to cooperate with the Europe Direct Office of Szolnok in the context of the "Health Day" that they are planning arose during the event. This will provide another chance to present the project and multiply its impact.

Fresh apples and apple juice were offered to people – as well as information about healthy life styles – at a stand in front of the City Hall. Many visitors had already heard about the event beforehand from the local media. Regional representatives of the national news agency, the most important regional newspapers, local TV -and radio stations were present to conduct interviews with the project ambassador, the European Commission representative and the one of the scientific experts.

A second launch event took place in Miskolc, in the Hungarian region of Észak- Magyarország joining their MEP, Vice Mayor Marcell Zsiga, the ambassador of the project Ms Alexandra Béres, Mr István Perger, of the Commission's Representation in Budapest, and Mr Lajos Biró, of the Scientific Committee. Among the 65 guests were representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the local government of Kazincbarcika and of Gyöngyös, the Association of Health Visitors of Young Mothers, the Association of Large Families, the Hungarian National Federation of Pensioners' Associations, the Klebelsberg Institution Maintenance Centre, and the Salvation Army of Gyöngyös.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to approach several important partners such as the Vice Mayor of Gyöngyös, the Salvation Army of Gyöngyös and the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid Public Benefit Foundation, who would like to support this initiative. The Association of Large Families expressed their readiness to support the distribution of fruit and vegetables.

A My Healthy Family stand was placed in front of the City Hall where citizens of Miskolc received fruits as well as information about healthy life styles.

Both the indoor launch event and the stand of My Healthy Family gathered the attention of regional and national media, including the MTI national news agency.
