My rst semester here at the University of Purdue was one that involved many obstacles, fun times, but most importantly…success. I realize that the success I achieved is a result of different aspects of college, but one comes to my mind in particular. My Dance 2XS co-ed hip hop team is the main reason why my rst semester went so well. A part of Dance 2XS that really changed my overall semes-ter was the members that participated in it. These not only were my teammates, but my good friends. Meeting these new people was exciting. Becoming good friends with every single one of them made such a positive impact on my semesfriends with every single one of them made such a positive impact on my semes-ter. I was able to go to them for assistance outside of the “dance world,” hang out with them on weekends, and even go to lunch on occasion. Dance 2XS provided me with new and everlasting friends that made my rst semester at Purdue more comfortable.

Aside from the friendships that were made, I found that Dance 2XS em-bedded plenty of new types/styles of music into my body. I have always found an interest in music; however, I only had a few different genres that I would listen to. As I was on this team, I was forced to adapt to unique genres that were “unknown” to me. We danced to every style that every member on the team enjoyed. Therefore, having these new types of music in my ears gave me something to dance to, relax to, and even do my homework to. I used these multiple genres of music for even do my homework to. I used these multiple genres of music for almost everything I did on campus and at practice, allowing me to do well and be at peace during this rst semester.

Dance 2XS did provide many opportunities and other ben-eting things to the members on the team, but one thing that I really enjoyed was the supply of outts that we re-ceived for being on the team. I’m not a big shopper at all. On the other hand, when it comes to buying uniforms to wear, that represents your mark on the team, I will pay for any-thing. Not only did I get to wear stylish and hip clothing that I liked, but I got to represent my club on campus. I felt like I was more a part of Purdue, in a way. It gave me something to tell my friends on campus when they asked, “What is Dance 2XS?” Although the apparel is only one of many reasons why Dance 2XS made my welcoming special, it was one reason that made me happy to be a piece of Purdue University.

Again, when I wore my Dance 2XS apparel, I felt a part of some-thing bigger. I believed that I was representing our club and our University. In most cases, this was very true. Over the course of my rst semester, we traveled to a variety of places. This included: Chicago, Urbana, Urbana-Champagne, and Ann Arbor. A majority of these trips were to showcase our talent, but in the process of doing that, I learned that Dance 2XS was about networking as well as everything else. Dancing in front of these other teams and public everything else. Dancing in front of these other teams and public from other states allowed my name to be spread. It was a way for me to get known outside of campus. Not only was I networking myself through dance, but I was networking through an audience perspective. I went to shows, met famous dancers, and attended a few workshops. Networking is a valuable thing, as I learned, and was tremendously helpful during my rst semester at Purdue, as it will be down the road.will be down the road.

One can imagine that after all of the long and dedicated hours of dancing, we would become very hungry. My only com-ment about that is that we were. We were nearly always eating food. I won’t com-plain because most of it was free. Going on these trips has its benets. I shortly un-derstood that free food was the main benet. I love to eat, therefore, this se-mester was great because it was full of food; a surplus of food. Dance 2XS was my grocery store in a way. I know that this reasoning is not substantial compared to the other ones, but nonetheless, it is a reason why Dance 2XS made me semesreason why Dance 2XS made me semes-ter worthwhile.

Dance 2XS played a huge role in my rst semester here at Purdue as one can understand by this point. Some might think that dance is my life and that my time at Purdue is occupied by dance. This belief is very incorrect. I am at this school for education pur-pose. I am studying engineering and plan to be a civil engineer with an architectural design back-ground. The amazing part about this is that everyone else on Dance 2XS is on the same boat as I am. More than half of the members are engineers and are able to help me with ease on my homework, seeing as I’m a freshman and they’re upper classman. Yes, this club has done a variety of helpful things for me, but it is still only an extracurricular activity. And everyone agrees with that. Dance 2XS has shown me a new life agrees with that. Dance 2XS has shown me a new life at Purdue, so to speak, and more importantly given me a new family. School Books
