My Fingerprint Direct & Indirect Characterization Activity Objective: To apply understanding of Direct & Indirect Characterization by describing yourself as if you were a character using both methods. DIRECTIONS: For this writing piece, you will use the lines of a fingerprint to create a Fingerprint Poem. • 1. Complete “STEAL” Chart for yourself. • 2. From “STEAL” Chart, use DIRECT CHARACTERIZATION (adjectives that describe your “character traits”) followed by INDIRECT CHARACTERIZATION (details that show the trait). • 3. You must have at least 10 traits (2 per element of STEAL) and details/examples that show those traits. Fill up the fingerprint! • 4. Use COLOR! • 5. Incorporate pictures in-between or behind your words. • 6. Use exciting, creative words – your words make you who you are! • 7. Incorporate onomatopoeia (words that sound like the sound they make: crash, crackle, sizzle, woof) and sensory language (imagery). • 8. Change the size of your writing (or use capital letters) to make certain words POP out!
