  • My Experience at Springfield Elementary By: Autumn Hall

  • My PPB classroomI was assigned to a first grade class at Springfield Elementary. My teacher, Mrs. Meeks has been teaching for three years. She is a graduate from Georgia Southern. I could talk to Mrs. Meeks and easily relate to her.

  • My Beliefs About TeachingAs a child, I knew that I was meant to be a teacher. I consumed all of my time playing school. My class consisted of my sister and our baby dolls. As I continued to grow older, I experienced a variety of teaching methods as I made my way to graduating high school. I identified methods I agreed and disagreed with along the way. I made a promise to myself to always be a dedicated teacher to helping my students further their education and to become better people. I want to be the teacher that my students look back on and remember. I want to inspire my students, push them towards their goal and teach them to do what is right.

  • How My Beliefs Have ChangedAs I observed Mrs. Meeks first graders, I saw how much she worked with her students in small groups. This allows her to focus on individual needs of the students and easily identify their level of learning. Small groups clearly point out the students strengths and weaknesses. I definitely want to incorporate group work, especially small groups into my classroom.

  • How My Beliefs Have Changed ContinuedMrs. Meeks is one of the most patient teachers I have ever met. She never raises her voice at her students. I must learn to be much more patient, especially if I teach very young children. I must learn to be flexible. Plans dont always go as they are supposed to. Mrs. Meeks often changed her lesson plans according to the behavior of the children. If the children are really wild, Mrs. Meeks will change to a more hands on activity.

  • How My PPB Experience has Influenced My Future Teaching Procedures

Classroom management is one of the most important aspects in an elementary class.I realized an enforced routine is crucial. Children must know what is next and what is expected of them. They can have no down time. Firm discipline must be stressed. I watched a teacher continue to give her students more and more chances. The students didnt take the teacher seriously and they thought she would keep giving them chances.

  • My Inspirational QuoteEducation is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. -Oscar Wilde
