What is P.A.D.?

Peripheral Artery Disease (P.A.D.) occurswhen there is a buildup of cholesteroland plaque in the arteries of the lowerextremities, causing decreased bloodflow to the legs and feet.

What is PADnet™?

A PADnet Arterial test can provide earlydetection of P.A.D. when treatmentoptions are broadest (incorporatinglifestyle changes as well as non-invasiveand invasive therapeutic options).

The PADnet detects blockages in arteries and the quality of blood flowusing Pulse Volume Recordings (PVRs) and segmental blood pressure measurements. Given appropriate signsand symptoms, a PADnet Post-Exercisetest may be necessary.

Plaque reduces blood flow

Artery affected by P.A.D.

During your test

You will lie down on the exam table.Pressure cuffs will be wrapped snuglyaround your arms, above knees, calvesand ankles. The technician will inflate thecuffs, and sensors in the machine willrecord the pulse volume waveforms thatcorrespond to each beat of your heart.

Blood pressures will be recorded at yourarms and ankles. The Ankle-BrachialIndex (ABI) is determined by the ratiobetween these pressures. You may bediagnosed with P.A.D. if your ankle pressure is 99% or lower than your armpressure. With severe narrowing, the ABImay be less than 50%.

You may be asked to exercise until symptoms are induced. After exercise, you will lie down on the exam table andrepeat the arm and ankle tests.

If the ABI and/or waveforms are abnormal, your doctor may recommendadditional diagnostic tests.

After your test

You may return to your normal routineright after the test. Your doctor will letyou know when the results are ready.
