FAST FACTS: Westview is proud to be the neighbourhood school for a 

historical and culturally diverse area of Windsor, Ontario.

In addition to courses preparing students for mainstream post‐secondary pathways, Westview includes

English Language Learners  MAPS (My Achievement Pathway to Success)  STEPS (Skills To Enhance Personal Success) 

Westview’s MAPS program is unique and serves students throughout the city of Windsor.

FAST FACTS:  The students who attend the MAPS program have complex 

learning styles. Their needs are addressed by teachers with additional qualifications in Special Education as well as a compliment of Educational Support Staff (Educational Assistants; Developmental Support Workers; and Child and Youth Workers) 

MAPS classes consist of up to 14 students per classroom.  The grade 9 year includes various non‐credit “Knowledge‐

courses” that serve as a personalized transition opportunity to ensure student success in future credit courses.

FAST FACTS:  MAPS students receive an Ontario Secondary School 

Certificate upon completion of the program. Students require a minimum of 14 credits to earn a certificate. 

All credit courses earned through the MAPS program are transferrable if the student enters a different pathway after earning their OSSC. 

The MAPS program supports the whole student (work skills; social skills and daily living skills) in order for the child to be an independent adult.

• Recent Psychological Assessment • Appropriate Educational Assessment • Exceptional Identification (Mild Intellectual Disability; 

Developmental Disability; *etc) • IPRC with Individual Education Plan 

*Behavioural Exceptionalities are only considered if part of a multiple designation

• IQ between: 60‐80• CAT scores: 1‐2%ile• Numeracy level: up to grade 3• Reading Level: non‐reader to grade 3

Characteristics include: • Difficulty with short and long term memory • Difficulty with written expression • Difficulty with problem solving/ social situations

• Requires high repetition: chunking of information

Characteristics include: • Has experienced modified programming within the classroom setting or have been in a specialized classroom 

• Requires smaller class setting: individual assistance to complete tasks 

• Student usually has a need for additional classroom support beyond the regular classroom setting.

How to spot a MAPS students at Westview SIMILAR TO ALL FALCONS• Earn credits toward a goal of 

independence in the community• Participation in clubs and teams• Eligible for all aspects of the 

Falcon community (leadership opportunities, special events)

• Traditional semester timetable• Common cafeteria• Personal locker• Student expectations

INDIVIDUALIZED• Classes are assigned with 

other students in the MAPS program  (no “open” courses with the full school)
