    An approach to installing and maintaining computer sciencedepartment laboratory systems using open software is presented.Issues such as system security, updating and maintenance areaddressed. Some details, such as programs and systems administration

    scripts are presented.

    History and Introduction:

    GC University, Faisalabad has emerged as a leading center of learningand research in a short span of time. The University with its dynamicfaculty and innovative syllabi has become a catalyst of intellectual,social and industrial change. It caters to the diverse needs of societyby imparting education in almost all the major fields of learning.

    The GC Universitys journey started as a primary school in 1897 in thepresent building of Govt. College for Women, Karkhana Bazar,Faisalabad. It was promoted to High School and Intermediate Collegein 1905 and 1924 respectively. It was elevated to the degree level in1933 and postgraduate disciplines were introduced in 1963. The long journey that started with the humble beginning reached its climaxwhen it was granted the status of University in October 2002.

    The GC University, Faisalabad has a long history of excellence anddistinction as an institution. Renowned scholars and eminentpersonalities have served this institution in various capacities atvarious stages of its history. It has produced outstanding personnelwho have earned great fame not only for themselves but also for thenation.

    The luminaries like Mr. Abdul Hameed, Mr. W.H.F. Armstrong, Mr. LalaChattan Annand, Mr. Hashmat Khan, Mr. Taj Khyal, Mr. Namdar Khan,Mr. Karamat Hussain Jafari, Mr. Mukhtar Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. AsifIqbal Khan and Dr. Arif Zaidi have served this institution.

    Vision:

    The vision of the Department of Computer Sciences is to ensure thatthe students take maximum advantage of the modern computersciences to solve a wide range of complex scientific, technological andsocial problems.

    Mission:

    The mission of the department is to provide exemplary education andtraining to our students in the field of computer so that theyproductively contribute to academia and industry.

    Introduction:

    The Department of Computer Science is one of the most prominentand oldest centers of computer education in Faisalabad city and wasestablished as a separate department by offering ICS program in 1999.The progress journey of the department continued, and it offered BS(CS) program in 2001 and MCS program in 2004.

    The department provides excellent computing facilities and ensuresthe enhancement of practical knowledge of students by facilitatingthem to learning. The Computer Science Department provides acomprehensive range of facilities necessary for computer use and alibrary of programs and packages for solving scientific and

    engineering.

    Laboratories:

    The department is equipped with four state of the art computer labswith the latest Pentium machines. These laboratories which areaccessible to all students and teachers of Computer ScienceDepartment are linked through the state of the art networkenvironment for retrieving information. It is for the first time in thehistory of Faisalabad for an institute to have its own establishedsoftware house.

    The following laboratories have been set up:

    Software Engineering Lab-I Software Engineering Lab-II Database Design Lab Software Development Lab

    A team of excellent and dedicated developers works untiringly hard todevelop, design and update wide range of software that meets theuniversity requirements in addition to the market demands as well.

    Objectives of Proposed System:

    Increase efficiency and reliability of the labs.

    Create one server and number of client in each of the CS Lab.

    Four servers will be connected with each other and will transfer

    important data from one lab to other.

    There will be a main server which will be a main server which will

    hold all the labs by networking.

    All data will be saved to the main server room.

    These will be a specific space for each student to save files and

    only he/she can access the files.

    Students will login by his name and there will be a password foreach student.

    If any program or software need then these can be access from

    the lab.

    Drawbacks of Existing System:

    No network sharing from one lab to other.

    If any problem occurs in one lab then we cannot solve it with thehelp of other lab.

    Now, we cant share files from one lab to other because there is

    no server room in labs.

    If students save their work in the labs next day they face much

    problem to retrieve data.
