Proper Wire Splicing Techniques 1

GENERAL PROCEDURES

Proper SplicingTechniques

NOTE: Follow this procedure when a wire can bespliced without cutting the wire in half.

1. Strip approximately two inches of insulationfrom the wire to be installed in the vehicle.

4. Insert the new wire between the parted strands.If more than one wire is being spliced, wrapthem in opposite directions.

2. On the vehicle wire to be spliced into, strip oneinch of insulation form the wire.

NOTE: Use Rosin Core Mildly-Activated (RMA)Solder. Do not use Acid Core Solder.

5. Wrap the new wire around one side of the splitstands, then wrap it around the other side.

• Solder the connection.

3. On the vehicle wire to be spliced into, separatethe strands to allow the new wire to be placedbetween the parted strands of wire.

6. Wrap the connection with electrical tape so thetape covers the wires approximately two incheson either side of the connection.

• Tape the wires together as shown in theillustration.

NOTE: Use Rosin Core Mildly-Activated (RMA)Solder. Do not use Acid Core Solder.

3. Lay the upper strand of wire to one side, thenlay the lower strand of wire to the other side asshown in the illustration.

Splicing End to End Connections • Solder the wires together.

NOTE: When both ends of the wire are cut, usethe end to end wire splicing procedure.

NOTE: Follow the steps below for end to end wiresplicing.

1. To make an end to end connection, start bystripping one inch of insulation from each ofthe wires. Part each wire into equal strands asshown in the illustration.

4. Wrap the connection with electrical tape so thetape covers the wires approximately two incheson either side of the connection.

2. Place the wires next to each other and twist theupper and lower strands together as shown.

• Disconnect the electrical connectors.

11. Remove the RH kick panel.

• Remove the door scuff plate.

• Remove the kick panel.



Route Harness

NOTE: Avoid routing ambient lighting wires nearsharp edges and moving components.

NOTE: Ensure the ambient lighting wires aresecure and do not interfere with vehicle operation.

16. Route the 2-wire power harness to thepassenger footwell area.

17. Route the light engine LED harness to thedriver footwell area.

20. Route the Exposed LED housing with the singleInstall LEDharness wire to the 5/16’’ (8mm) hole abovethe utility panel.

NOTE: If this vehicle uses a liner in the cupholder, carefully mark the LED location onto theliner. Then remove the liner and use a 1/2’’ hollowpunch to punch a hole in the liner to allow the LEDlight to pass through the liner. Re-install the linerwhen complete. One source of the hollow punch setis Harbor Freight, item # 03838 or use anequivalent 1/2’’ hollow punch from another source.

NOTE: Avoid driver distraction by locating the cupholder LED in the 7 o’clock position out of thedriver line of sight.

NOTE: The LED will be mounted to the consolecup holder later in this procedure.

21. Attach the LED lens to the exposed LED18. Locate and drill 5/16’’ (8mm) hole in the Rearhousing.cup holder as shown below.

19. Working from inside the console storage boxlocate and drill 5/16’’ (8mm) hole above theutility panel as shown below.



Install Light Rods

NOTE: One end of the light rod is silver the otherend is printed with the part number. The lightengine LED housing is attached to the part numberend of the light rod.

24. Connect the light engine LED housingcontaining (2) wires to the light rod.

• Attach to the part number end of the lightrod.

22. Assemble (4) light rod retainer clips using partsfrom the hardware kit as shown below.

• Attach saddle clip to J-nut using suppliedhardware.

• Attach tie strap to saddle clip.

25. Route the remaining light engine LED housingto the passenger footwell area.

26. Using the assembled hardware attach the 9’’light rod to the passenger lower dash support asshown below.

• The silver end of the 9’’ light rod is placedoutboard, closest to the vehicle door.

• Locate clips23. Using the assembled hardware attach the 12’’

31. Connect the Black ground wire from theambient lighting harness to the chassis groundpoint at the driver kick panel or in a suitablegrounding location.

28. Locate and drill 11/16’’ (17.5mm) hole In the32. NOTE: A DVOM connected to the correct wirefloor console compartment as shown below.

33. Connect the White wire from the ambientlighting harness to the violet/white park lampcircuit wire at the SJB Connector C2280E Pin6.

29. File (2) Switch locating notches in the 11/16’’(17.5mm) hole as shown above.

30. Install the ambient lighting switch into the floorconsole.

• Connect the ambient lighting switch.



39. Install the LED housing and lens to the consolecup holder.

• Attach tie strap to saddle clip.

29. Using included wire ties, secure the 9’’ lightrod to the wire harness below the passengerlower dash, as shown below.


• Secure the tie straps.26. Using the assembled hardware attach the 12’’

light rod to the lower dash in the driverfootwell as shown below.


• Locate clips

14. Remove the 6 HVAC module screws.

Remove the selector lever knob.

• Remove the 2 selector lever knob screws.

15. Remove the HVAC module.


With Navigation

16. Remove the floor console front finish panel.

• Remove the 4 floor console front finishpanel screws.

13. Pull the selector lever trim panel toward therear of the vehicle to release the retaining clips.



17. Remove the HVAC module.

• Remove the 2 HVAC module screws.


20. Remove the storage box trim ring.

• Remove 2 screws.

• Release the tabs.

NOTE: LH shown RH similar.All

18. Remove the floor console rear panel.

• Pull straight rearward to disengage the clips.


21. Remove the 2 screws and the floor consolestowage bin.


19. Remove the 5 screws and the floor consolestowage bin door.



22. Remove the RH lower instrument panel 25. Using the supplied adhesive pad and three tieinsulator. straps mount the CML module to the wire

harness below the center stack as shown below.• Remove three screws.

• Disconnect interior lamp and electricalconnectors.

• Remove the panel.

Route Harness

• Attach light engine to the part number endof the light rod.



• Attach tie strap to saddle clip

39. Route the remaining Light engine LED housingto the passenger footwell area.

40. Locate and drill (2) 11/64'' (4.5mm) in the RHlower instrument panel insulator as shownbelow.



43. Install the RH lower instrument panel insulator.

• Connect the light engine LED housing tothe part number end of the light rod.

• Connect interior lamp and electricalconnector.

• Install the 3 screws.

55. Install the selector lever knob.

• Install the 2 selector lever knob screws.Install Trim • Attach the selector lever knob bezel.

56. Install LED lens to cup holder.47. NOTE: Insure the ambient lighting wires aresecure and do not interfere with vehicleoperation.

Use the supplied 4'' tie straps to secure theambient lighting harness wires.

Without Navigation

48. Install the HVAC module.


• Install the 6 HVAC module screws.

With Navigation

• Disconnect the trunk release switch andstart/stop button electrical connector, ifequipped.



12. Remove the 4 screws and remove the storagecompartment from the center console.

NOTICE: Damage to the floor console may occurif cardboard is not used to remove the floorconsole upper trim panel.

NOTE: Floor console LH upper trim panel shown,floor console RH upper trim panel similar.

11. Remove the floor console LH upper trim panelin the following sequence.

• Pull the rear of the floor console LH uppertrim panel away from the floor console,releasing the retaining clips.

• Position a piece of cardboard between thefloor console LH upper trim panel and floorconsole.

• Pull the floor console LH upper trim paneltoward the rear of the vehicle to release theretaining clips from the instrument panel.



13. Slide the selector lever knob bezel down toaccess the 2 selector lever knob screws.

17. Remove the media bin/storage compartment inthe following sequence.

• Remove the 4 screws and lift up the media14. Remove the 2 selector lever knob screws. bin/storage compartment.

• Disconnect the electrical connector(s).

18. Remove the floor console rear panel.

• Pull straight rearward to disengage the clips.


15. Remove the 4 selector lever bezel screws.

19. Remove the 4 top screws in rear of the floorconsole stowage bin.

16. Position the selector lever bezel and the selectorlever knob off of the selector lever and thecenter console. Disconnect the electricalconnectors, and remove the selector lever knoband bezel.



24. Remove the protective backing from theadhesive pad and secure the distribution boxbelow the center stack as shown below.

20. Disengage the LH and RH console side trimpanels to pull out the inner console bin.

21. Remove the inner console bin.

28. Locate and drill 11/16’’ (17.5mm) hole in sideconsole trim as shown below.

29. File (2) Switch locating notches in the 11/16’’(17.5mm) hole.

30. Install the ambient lighting switch into the sideconsole trim.

Install LED

NOTE: If this vehicle uses a liner in the cupholder, carefully mark the LED location onto theliner. Then remove the liner and use a 1/2’’ hollowpunch to punch a hole in the liner to allow the LED

33. Identify the exposed LED housing with thelight to pass through the liner. Re-install the linersingle lead.when complete. One source of the hollow punch set

is Harbor Freight, item # 03838 or use anequivalent 1/2’’ hollow punch from another source.

NOTE: Avoid driver distraction by locating the cupholder LED in a position out of the driver line ofsight.

31. Locate and drill 5/16’’ (8mm) hole in the rearof the RH front cup holder as shown below.

34. Install the LED lens to the RH front cup holderand assemble the exposed LED housing withthe single lead.



35. Install the inner console bin. 37. Connect the light engine LED housingcontaining (2) wires to the light rod.• Connect the auxiliary point, power point and

USB implement. • Attach light engine to the part number endof the light rod.• Connect the ambient lighting switch.

Install Light Rods


38. Route the remaining Light engine LED housingto the passenger footwell area.

39. Locate and drill (2) 11/64’’ (4.5mm) in the RHlower instrument panel insulator as shownbelow.

36. Using tie straps attach the 12’’ light rod to thelower dash wire harness in the driver footwellas shown below.

• The silver end of the light rod is placedoutboard, closest to the vehicle door.

• secure tie straps.



40. Assemble rod clips to the RH lower instrumentpanel insulator as shown below.

44. NOTE: A DVOM connected to the correct wirewill show 0V when the park lamps switch inthe OFF position , then show 12V when thewhen the park lamps switch in the ON position.

35. Connect the White wire from the ambient lighting harness to the White/Violet parking light circuitwire at the Body Control Module (BCM) Connector C2280C Pin 14.

Install Trim36. NOTE:

Ensure the ambient lighting wires are secure and do not interfere with vehicle operation.

Use the supplied 4'' tie straps to secure the ambient lighting harness wires.

37. Install the passenger sill plate.

38. Install the LED housing and lens to the floor console cup holders.

39. Use the supplied 4'' tie straps to secure any unused LED housing and ambient lighting harness wires.

40. Install the floor console finish panel.


• Push downward on the panel to engage the retaining clips.

41. Install the instrument panel center finish panel.


42. Install the LH and RH heater ducts.

43. Install the LH and RH floor console side trim finish panels.

44. Close the glove compartment door.

45. Install the passenger side lower instrument panel insulator.

46. If equipped, install the cup holder inserts.

Vehicles With Manual Transmission47. Install the gearshift lever knob.

• Turn the gearshift lever knob in a clockwise direction.
