COLLEGES RECOMMEND 18 of the 24 Credits Should Be English 4.0 credits Math* 4.0 credits Science 3.0 credits Social Studies** 3.0 credits World Language (of the same language) 2.0 credits Academic Electives 2.0 credits * Math credits must include Algebra 1 & 2 or its equivalent AND Geometry. ** Social Studies credits must include World History, American History, American Government, and Economics. Rigorous Course Recommendation Rigorous and challenging courses in high school, for example, Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment GPA & Standardized Test Scores Competitive GPA and Standardized Test scores on the ACT/SAT. Extracurricular Activities & Service Involvement in student activities, leadership positions, and volunteering is strongly encouraged. NEW SENIOR ENGLISH COURSE REQUIREMENT* Per the new State of Florida Senior English course requirements, students will be required to take a specific English (English 4 College Prep) class depending on the results of the PERT test taken during the second semester of their junior year of high school. The scores to determine whether a student must take this class to graduate are still being finalized. Students scoring below a 104 on the PERT Reading and/or below a 99 on the PERT Writing will be placed in English 4 College Prep. If students score above the cut scores on the PERT or receive ACT/SAT concordant scores, they become eligible to take other English classes, thereby being exempt from placement into English 4 College Prep. For Your Information Although World Language and Community Service Hours are NOT required for graduation, they are recommended for entrance into a 4-year university and scholarships. State Testing Requirement Passing score on the 10 th Grade Reading FCAT 2.0 (all) Participation/Passing score on End of Course Exams (as determined by year of course enrollment). End of Course Exams Requirement* The following courses will have an End of Course (EOC) Exam: Algebra 1, Biology, Geometry, American History, and Algebra 2. COLLEGE READINESS TESTING SAT & ACT

How to prepare for college readiness tests: PSAT is offered every October for students in 9-11th grades

PLAN is offered in the fall for every 10th grade student.

When should you take the SAT or ACT?

We recommend NO LATER THAN the SPRING of your JUNIOR year so that you will have as much course work

under your belt as possible.

Extended Time for Students with 504’s or IEP’s *To request extended time for any standardized test please see your guidance counselor. Please allow ample time for the request to be

processed. ACT extended time must be requested per test. PSAT/SAT/AP requests can be processed at any time during the high

school career.

Students on Free/Reduced Lunch *Students who receive free/reduced lunch are eligible for fee waivers for

the ACT and SAT in their junior year. Complete a Student Services Request form and submit to the Career Resource Specialist, Mrs.

Chamberlin!
