After the walk, enjoy s’mores, face painting, trick-or- treating and more! • 1 cup sugar 1 2/3 cups flour • 1/4 tsp baking powder • 1 tsp baking soda • 3/4 tsp salt • 1/2 tsp ground cloves • 1/2 tsp nutmeg • 1/2 tsp cinnamon • 1/2 cup vegetable oil • 1/2 cup mashed pumpkin • 2 large eggs • 1/2 cup nuts (optional) INGREDIENTS INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees 2. Grease and flour a loaf pan 3. Sift together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg) into a large bowl. 4. Add the remaining ingredients and mix until combined. 5. I started with the Y five years ago as a preschool teacher and I have been hooked ever since. I’m also a mom to a fabulous chihuahua and one playful yorkie. Halloween Safety Tips: everything you need to know to keep your kids safe this Halloween Halloween is the time of year when we like to be scared, but not when it comes to something like child safety. Read these tips below and share them with your little ones too for a fun and safe Halloween. Walk Safely • Look left, right and left again when crossing a street. • Put electronic devices down and keep heads up when crossing the street. • Walk on sidewalks or paths. If paths are not available, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. • Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Trick or Treat With an Adult • Children under the age of 12 should not be alone at night without adult supervision. • Adults should inspect candy before consuming. • Do not eat candy that has been opened or anything homemade. Keep Costumes Both Creative and Safe Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers. If possible, choose a light colored costume. • Opt for face paint and makeup over a mask, which can obstruct a child’s vision. • Glow sticks can be a fun addition to a costume and are easily seen by drivers. • When you buy the costume make sure it is the right size. Costumes that are too large can cause trips and falls. Drive Safely on Halloween • Slow down and be alert. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways. • Make sure your headlights are on. • Eliminate distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Did you know? On average, children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than any other night of the year.
