Section 1: The Rise of IslamThe Muslim religion began with the Prophet Muhammad. The Quran is considered the word of God. All Muslims follow the five pillars or beliefs of the Muslim religion.
Section 2: Building a Muslim EmpireFollowing the death of Muhammad there were disputes over his successor. The Umayyad caliphate established itself and grew powerful. It was later replaced by the Abbasids, who established a rich legacy of art and culture.
