And especially thank you to you, the fans, for your continued support!

Our StoryThe Laconia Collegiate Baseball Club was born in October 2009. The Crane Family, life-long baseball fans, took over stakeholdership of the Manchester (CT) Silkworms a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). The Cranes approached the City of Laconia to gage the City’s interest in housing a baseball team. After receiving enthusiastic support from city officials, the team had a new home.

The NECBL Board of Directors conditionally approved the transfer and subsequent move to Laconia providing upgrades were completed at Robbie Mills Sports Complex where the team would host its home games. The Crane Family, along with the City of Laconia and Laconia Savings Bank (now Bank of New Hampshire) shared the cost of the renovations. By April 2010 the work was complete and Robbie Mills Field was ready for baseball. The next step for the new team was an identity. The team asked Lakes Region residents for their help in naming the team. The winner, submitted by Pete Roller of Center Harbor, was the Muskrats. Following the naming, the Muskrats created their logo with help from the Lakes Region Community College Graphic Arts program. The logo was the work of Lacey Mason and Cory Migneault under the direction of Mike Place.

On June 4, 2010 more than 1,000 specators and fans were in attendance for the first ever game for the Laconia Muskrats. The Muskrats prevailed over the visiting Sanford Mainers 6-2. On hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch were: Mayor Matt Lahey, City Manager Eileen Cabanel, Parks & Recreation Commissioner Jeff Pattison, City Councilors Armand Bolduc, Brenda Baer, Bob Hamel, Henry Lipman, Greg Knytych, President of Laconia Savings Bank Mark Primeau, Muskrats Board members Rob McShinsky and Louis Guevin, and owner Jonathan Crane. The Muskrats, under manager Matt Williams, finished the season in fourth place with a record of 20-22 and qualified for the NECBL playoffs. They had three players named to the NECBL All-Star team with Jarett Miller and Casey Kalenkosky picked as the starting pitcher and catcher respectively. Three Muskrats were named also to the NECBL Top Prospects List by Baseball America. Pitcher Tyler Joyner lead the league in strikeouts with 53. In addition, the Muskrats had their first player drafted by Major League Baseball. Firstbasemen Jason Rogers was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers (Rogers has subsequently gone on to play for the Brewers, making his major league debut September 2, 2014).

The 2011 season saw a great number of firsts for the Muskrats organization. The team won their first playoff game, first playoff series victory, first Eastern Division Championship and first appearance in the NECBL Championship Series. The Muskrats beat the Newport Gulls in the first round of the playoffs, giving the Gulls their first ever opening round loss. The Muskrats then faced the Sanford Mainers for the Eastern Division Championship, sweep-ing the series in 2 games. The 2011 NECBL Championship pitted the Muskrats against fellow Granite State foes, the Keene SwampBats. A great run by the ‘Skrats, but no Championship banner. Along with the team success, Chris Costantino, a Red Sox draftee, was named the NECBL MVP.

Prior to the 2012 season the Muskrats made national headlines by offering a managerial contract to deposed Bos-ton Red Sox manager, Terry Francona. The story appeared in media across the country, and local tv and radio stations and was featured on ESPN SportsCenter. Francona never accepted the contract offer, but the Muskrats did bring a piece of Fenway Park to Laconia in 2012. The Muskrat Monster was constructed through a community project headed up by the Lakes Region Builders and Remodelers Association.

In September of 2015 the Cranes passed on stewardship of the Muskrats and a new General Manager was named. Local businessman and long-time Laconia resident (and Muskrat Host Dad), Kristian Svindland is running the day-to-day operations of the team. Additionally, the team changed its name, but not our beloved Marko. The Winnipesaukee Muskrats encompass the Summer life on the Lake and are the regions team.

The Muskrats look forward to many more successful years and hopefully many NECBL Championships!

Robbie Mills Sports ComplexThe Winnipesaukee Muskrats play their home games at Robbie Mills Memorial Sports Complex in Laconia, New Hampshire. The complex underwent rennovations prior to the Muskrats’ innagural season in 2010. Renovations included a new press box, two sets of bleachers, new fencing, enlarged dugouts, and a public address system. In addition, the park is also home to the “Muskrat Monster,” a 17 foot high and 88 foot long green wall resembling the Green Monster at Fenway Park in Boston. Robbie Mills Field is consistently voted by players and managers as one of the best facilities in the NECBL.

Robbie Mills was a rabid sports enthusiast and played baseball, basketball and soccer who was senselessly killed in August 1998. The Sports Complex that honors his memory is proudly sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire and the City of Laconia and was built in 2005.

MUSKRATS MISSIONThe Muskrats’ mission is threefold:

1. Provide the Lakes Region of New Hampshire with a fun, affordable, family-friendly entertainment experience.2 Enhance the entire community through charitable donations and service projects.3. Assist our players in the betterment of their baseball careers and personal lives.

If there is anything we can do to make your experience at Robbie Mills Field more enjoyable, please do not hesitate to ask a ‘Skrats Staff Member!
